Yankees injury news: Adam Warren close to rejoining Yankees

Recovering from back spasms that have sidelined him since September 1st, Adam Warren is on the path to rejoining the Yankees just before the end of the regular season.

With the minor league seasons already wrapped up, Warren hasn't had the opportunity to face live batters in his rehab, but he did throw a two inning, 30 pitch simulated game prior to the Yankees’ 6-1 win over the Rays last night.

Warren's addition gives manager Joe Girardi yet another bullet in his bullpen chamber, as the Yankees prepare for what will hopefully be a deep postseason run.

Prior to his injury, Warren had hit a bit of a rough patch, allowing five runs over four appearances, but he has generally been rock solid out of the New York bullpen all season.  

On the year, Warren owns a 3-2 record with a steady 2.40 ERA over 45 appearances. He has struck out roughly a batter an inning (53 in 56.1 IP) and owns a very strong WHIP of 0.888 and an ERA+ of 191, signifying he has been almost twice as good as the league's average middle relief arm.

Ideally, the Yankees would want to get him some game action against the Rays and Blue Jays instead of just throwing him into the fire in the postseason.  Girardi has hinted Warren could be activated as soon as Thursday, assuming he experiences no setbacks.  If all goes well and Warren looks himself in his limited action this week, expect him to make the postseason roster and play an important role as the Yankees chase down their 28th World Series title.
