Sheffield and Widener combine for a no hitter in AA Trenton's 2-0 win

Justus Sheffield is a prospect Yankee fans have been very excited about since he came to the team at the 2016 trade deadline. He has been performing well in his first full season with the team and tonight at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, New Jersey, Sheffield was a big part of a special performance by the team.

In a matchup that pitted the Trenton Thunder against the New York Mets affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Sheffield and Taylor Widener combined for a no hitter. Sheffield started the game, pitching four innings while striking out three and walking two. Widener relieved Sheffield and pitched the remaining five innings, getting the win while striking out seven and walking none.

The combined no-no helped Trenton take a 2-1 lead in their best of five Eastern League semifinal matchup, where one more win will push them to the Easton League Championship series. The brilliant performances by Sheffield and Widener come just days after another highly touted Yankees prospect, infielder Thairo Estrada hit for the cycle to even the series with Binghamton. The Yankees minor league system has given us plenty to be excited for the future this year and tonight Sheffield and Widener gave us two more.

Stay tuned for more news about the minor league playoffs.
