The Yankees struck first with a four-run second inning begun by a Jacoby Ellsbury RBI single. After the Yankees loaded the bases, Todd Frazier got an RBI the hard way taking a bitch off his hip to score the Yankees second run. From there, Gary Sanchez plated two more runs on an RBI single.

However, Masahiro Tanaka gave a run back to the Rangers in the bottom of the second on a solo shot by Nomar Mazara. The Yankees in the top of the third when Didi Gregorius launched his 21st homer of the season, a solo shot to make it 5-1, giving him a new career high.

The Rangers began storming back in the bottom half of the third on RBI doubles by Delino DeShields and Elvis Andrus to make it a 5-3 game. Robinson Chionos then made it a one-run game on an RBI double in the fifth, and the Rangers tied the game up on a wild pitch from Tanaka. Tanaka would exit the game following a double by Shin-Soo Choo, with runners on second and third in a tie ballgame.

Tommy Kahnle entered the game and subsequently allowed a RBI single to Andrus. The Rangers then added four insurance runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Gomez, RBI single by Joey Gallo, and two-RBI triple by Rougned Odor.

The Yankees were unable to put up any runs after the first three innings and will now look to win the next two games to win this series. They are back in action tomorrow night at 1:05 PM ET with Luis Severino squaring off against Andrew Cashner.
