Black Friday bargains the Yankees should consider this offseason

Image
*Editor's note: A prior version of this article appeared stating that Yangervis Solarte was a free-agent this Winter.  Solarte's option was declined by the Blue Jays but he remains under team control through this season under arbitration eligibility* ‘Tis the season! The most wonderful time of the year is upon us, whether you’d like to associate that with the holidays or the hot stove. This time of year wouldn’t be complete, of course, without the annual chaos of Black Friday. While millions of Americans scramble to make the most of their money and take advantage of great deals this weekend, MLB front offices will likely be doing the same on the free agent market. With that, let’s take a look at some cost-effective free agents who should most definitely be on the Yankees’ radar. Credit: Denis Poroy/Getty Images

Breaking: Yankees trade Adam Warren to the Mariners

Image
In a surprise move, the Yankees have dealt middle reliever Adam Warren to the Seattle Mariners for international signing money. The deal was first reported by Ken Rosenthal and the return was reported by Mark Feinsand. The Mariners were busy on the relief pitching market and the Yankees likely appealed to them because of New York’s desire for international signing money over prospects. Picture Credit: Paul J. Yankees comeback falls short after German’s horrendous outing

Domingo German put the Yankees in a hole early with another rough start, and the Yankees were not able to rally off enough runs versus Noah Sydnergaard and the Mets' bullpen as they dropped game one of the Subway Series 7-5. Photo Credit: AP Photo

Yankees stage rally in tenth to win series against Toronto

Image
The final game in this three-game set brought yet another series win to the New York Yankees. They are 19-2-2 in the past 23 series, dating back to April 19th. Impressive starts from Domingo German and rookie Ryan Borucki kept the scoring to a minimum. Brett Gardner’s 10th inning hit and Tyler Wade’s pinch-running speed allowed the Yankees to win on a sunny afternoon in Toronto.   Photo Credit: Toronto Blue Jays

Gray shelled early, Sale tosses gem in 11-0 massacre

Image
In game two of this three-game set between the AL's top two teams, the Red Sox got to Sonny Gray early, and coasted to an easy victory behind an utterly dominant Chis Sale. The Boston bats were relentless all night, led by Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez.  With the win, Boston recaptured sole  possession  of first place in the AL East and evened the season series with the Yankees and four games  apiece .   Photo Credit: Julie Jacobson/AP

Yankees drop game two, split double header with the Tigers

Image
The Yankees headed into game two of their double header with the Detroit Tigers on a five-game winning streak which included the day game of today’s two game set. Thanks to a rainout on April 15 th , the Yankees and the Tigers took the field with each player sporting number 42 jerseys to honor Jackie Robinson. After a dominating performance by Luis Severino this afternoon, the Yankees sent Domingo German to the mound to face off against Mike Fiers in what was a closely contested game that ultimately saw the Tigers come out on top. After a miserable start, Jonathan Holder has resurged

Image
A few weeks ago, Yankee fans were calling for his head. Yankees Twitter was ablaze with hot takes from armchair scouts giving their analysis of Jonathan Holder, and the consensus was bleak: “Get rid of this bum!” Luckily for both Holder and the Yankees, the fans don’t make the personnel decisions. Aaron Boone continued to pitch Holder in the later innings, and the young right-hander has proven the team’s patience was worth it. With injuries to Tommy Kahnle and Adam Warren, Holder’s recent success has transformed him into one of the most important arms at Boone’s disposal. Photo Credit: Newsday

Adam Warren placed on 10-day DL, Holder recalled

Image
This morning the Yankees recalled right handed pitcher Jonathan Holder from AAA Scranton. The corresponding move was veteran righty Adam Warren being sent to the 10-day disabled list with a right back strain. Holder made the Yankees opening day roster but struggled mightily in the Bronx posting a whopping 20.25 ERA in three games while posting a record of 0-1. Holder was sent down after his poor performance against Baltimore on April 6th. The 24-year-old righty will look to get things back on track in this weekend’s final two games against Toronto. Holder will be active for today’s 1:05 game.   Photo Credit: NYDN

Trio of homers not enough to back Gray’s rough outing

Image
Coming off a low-scoring contest in Thursday’s game, both teams came out slugging on Friday. Unfortunately for the Yankees, Sonny Gray had another terrible start, and homers from Austin, Stanton, and Andujar were not enough to get the Yankees the victory.   Photo Credit: AP

Early season Yankees overreactions

Image
With the baseball season still only having just begun here in being mid-April, there has already been a flood of overreactions from fans, despite us being less than 10% through the tumultuous 162-game MLB season. With that being said, I’ll examine whether the following statements from the first few weeks of the season are warranted or simply just overreactions.     Photo Credit: Elsa/Getty Images

What exactly is wrong with the Yankees' bullpen?

Image
When the 2017 season began, a common opinion about the Yankees was that their bullpen would be a strength.  Many thought that there was a chance the Yankees’ bullpen in 2018 would be the best ever, and there was good reason to think so.  A group made up of flamethrowers Aroldis Chapman, Chad Green, and Tommy Kahnle, stalwarts David Robertson and Adam Warren, as well as four time All-Star Dellin Betances was one that, on paper at least, was arguably the best in baseball.  However, throughout the first 14 games of the season, the majority of Yankee relievers have not yet lived up to their potential. Tyler Austin's two homers not enough as Yankees drop first game of the year, 5-3

Image
The Yankees dropped their first game of the season today as Tyler Austin’s two home runs and CC Sabathia’s solid start were not enough to propel the Yanks past the Jays. Dellin Betances had an implosion on the mound in the eighth, and the Yankees saw Billy McKinney and Adam Warren leave the game with injuries. Photo Credit: AP

2018 Pinstripe Preview: Adam Warren

Image
As the Yankees bullpen underperformed a bit in 2017 with many frustrating losses coming at the fault of them, Adam Warren was quietly very good when called upon. Now in his second stint with the Yankees, Warren provides a nice versatility option out of the ‘pen, as he’s able to go pitch an quick inning or give you multiple, effective innings in long relief. The Yankees' success in 2018 will be built on their bullpen

Image
The Yankees ’ bullpen, which was already an incredible strength in 2017, is going to be an absolute juggernaut in 2018. Yes, I understand the bullpen went unchanged since 2017 concluded, (There ’s really nothing to change about it) but it will be significantly better as a whole in 2018.     Photo Credit: Getty Images

2018 Pinstripe Preview: David Robertson

Image
Midway through the 2017 season, Robertson was brought back to his former team in a blockbuster trade. He certainly had some lows throughout the season, especially in some big moments, but he was overall exceptional for the Yanks. There were rumors going around this offseason that Robertson could potentially be moved to free up cap room to sign a big name free agent. Although this could've been entertained by the front office, these rumors were likely not at all true as Robertson is a fan favorite and arguably the Yankees best, most consistent reliever. 2018 Pinstripe Preview: Luis Cessa

Image
Today's 2018 Pinstripe Preview features third  year right- handed pitcher Luis  Cessa . The young 25-year-old (26 in April) first came to the Yankees alongside bullpen stud Chad Green in the December 2015 trade that sent lefty Justin Wilson to the Detroit Tigers.   Cessa  had previously been a highly regarded prospect in the Mets' system and was a part of the  Yoenis  Cespedes trade along with 2016 American League Rookie of the Year Michael Fulmer.   Luis  Cessa  made his major league debut on April 8th , 2016 in a relief effort against the Tigers and went on to play a swingman role for the 2016 Yankees the rest of the way.     Photo Credit: Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post

Yankees come to terms with all arbitration-eligible players

Last week, the New York Yankees came to terms with all eight of their arbitration-eligible players, agreeing on one-year contracts with each and avoiding going to arbitration hearings, which are set to begin on January 29th.     Photo Credit: Jim McIsaac/Getty Images

Yankees season ends with bitter 4-0 ALCS Game 7 defeat in Houston

Image
In a series that has featured mostly nail biting, closely contested games, the Yankees took the field at Minute Maid Park for Game 7 of the ALCS facing a tall task. Coming off a tough defeat in Game 6 that saw the Astros offense wake up, it was clear Minute Maid would provide a hostile environment from the first pitch on. The home team had won every game in this series up to this point and the Yankees would have to break the trend if they were going to advance to their first World Series since 2009. The matchup saw Astros right hander Charlie Morton facing off against veteran lefty CC Sabathia. While CC has been the Yankees stopper all season, it would come down to whether the Yankees offense would finally be able to break through on the road. Although this Yankee team has risen to the occasion many times this season, they would come up short this time and falter just a game shy of the World Series. Credit: Eric Christian Smith/AP Photo
