After all that controversy, the Yankees made the only decision they could: slotting 21-year-old breakout sensation Anthony Volpe as the youngest Opening Day shortstop since The Captain. 

It’s the matchup we’ve been waiting for, the matchup we’ve been anticipating all year long. The 3 rd  entry into a so far closely contested but one-sided playoff rivalry. Its Yankees – Astros Part 3 in the 2022 ALCS. The Astros posted the best record in the AL this season and swept through their ALDS series against the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees struggled through much of the second half of their season, squandering their chance at home field advantage in the process, and were pushed to the brink in their ALDS series against the Cleveland Guardians. In spite of the trials they’ve endured so far, the Yankees have made it to where they wanted to be, with a chance to avenge their previous losses and get over the mountain they have not yet been able to scale. Don’t look now, but the Yankees might be hitting their first real rough patch of the season.   While it’s hard to complain about a team with a 58-23 record at the midway point of the season, the Yankees have a crucial stretch of games coming up against the second-place Boston Red Sox, and the offensive has gone through a bit of a cold streak that hopefully doesn’t linger through those important games.

  Something special is happening in the Bronx this summer.   I know, I know, it’s only June 17.   We’re only 63 games into a 162-game marathon season. I know I’m not the guy you expected to hear any optimism out of.   But here we are, just under 39% of the way into a season I was sure was destined for a fourth-place finish, with the Yankees holders of the best record in Major League Baseball and the third-best 63 game start in franchise history.   Welcome back to the first BBBets in two weeks! I took a nice long break following a very rough 0-5 day of picks, the worst of which being a Braves moneyline bet in a game in which they ended up losing to the Padres 12-1. Before that day I was 7-2 in bets given out for a net positive of +3.59 units. After that day I am looking at 7-7 in bets that I’ve given out for a net negative of -1.31 units. One bad day ruins quite the promising start to the season. While I am slightly positive in all of my MLB bets this season (including the bets I hadn’t given out), I want to get my record back on track and move my net losses back into the net gains on my BBBets picks. With that said, let’s get to the bets.

  Hello and welcome again to Bronx Bomber Bets! This will be our second BBBets of the season, with the first being last Friday where I started 4-1. I didn’t give out any bets this weekend, but had an overall pretty solid weekend, and then saved myself yesterday by not giving out any picks (I had the graphic made and had began a blog) on a day where I ended up going 1-3. I’m gearing up to end that cold streak at one day today, and I have 4 bets that I think will return my hands to their heat from this weekend. It’s just picks from me again today, but hopefully later this season we start getting bets from our other two resident degenerates at BBB, Andrew and Luigi.

  The Yankees are heading to the west coast, and they head off on this seven-game west coast swing as the hottest team in baseball. They are the owners of an 11-game winning streak and have won their last 10 consecutive series. It has been a remarkable turnaround for a team that looked like it was asleep for the first half of this season, but there is still work to be done. The Yankees current 11 game winning streak is their longest since 1985 and it has seen them go from trailing both the Red Sox and the Oakland A’s in the Wild Card standings, to leading both by four and five games respectively in the loss column. The Yankees flipped a switch in mid-July and now have ridden an impressive white hot winning streak into the driver’s seat for a playoff stretch as we head to the stretch run of the regular season. The Yankees (46-43) enter the second half of their schedule 8 games behind the Red Sox (55-36) for first place in the AL East and 4.5 games behind the Oakland Athletics (52-40) for the second Wild Card spot after their nightmare first half of the year. The Yankees offense looks f***ing dead. Every single one of them. Even DJ LeMahieu, the Yankees’ best hitter by leaps and bounds, is in the middle of an uncanny stretch of bad hitting. Of the Yankees every day starters (Higgy is 4-for-13 for a .308 avg  and also Tyler Wade is 1-for-3 apparently lol ), the three highest batting averages are: DJ (.277), Gio Urshela (.276), and Aaron Judge (.268). The next highest… Gary Sanchez with a .200 average, unless you want to count Brett Gardner as every day, in which case the next highest is a .214 average (which props up the team average of .205). And that isn’t even a knock on Gardy, who still puts up Gardy at-bats whenever he’s in the lineup (plus, of his six hits, two of them are doubles) or Gary, who I think has actually put up some really nice at-bats; and, of the team’s 17 grounders into a double play (tied for 3 rd worst in the league), he has grounded into zero (also Gary has walked 7 times and has a .321 OBP, which is third among ev...

After a not-so-fun opening weekend against Toronto, the Bombers have turned it around a little bit, taking two of three from the red hot Baltimore Orioles this week. The Yanks finally started to get the bats going, with some big contributions from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Pitching was strong as well all around, with possibly Gerrit Cole’s best start in pinstripes on Tuesday.

The Yankees announced their roster for the Wild Card series early on Tuesday, and Miguel Andujar was left off of it. Heading into the postseason, the INF/OF Andujar was the biggest question mark for the team, and whether he would be included on the roster or not. Instead, the Yankees decided in favor of having first baseman Mike Ford and third string catcher Erik Kratz on the bench. The third baseman and outfielder was hoping that a strong finish to the season could earn himself a spot on the roster, as he went 9-for-25 in September with four extra-base hits. However, it seems that the lefty bat of Ford (who went hitless at 0-for-19 in the final month of the season) gave him the advantage, as the team only has three lefty bats plus the switch-hitting Aaron Hicks on the roster, not including Ford.  

After landing the biggest fish in Free Agency this past Winter, the Yankees enter 2020 as the clear favorites in the American League East.  That is not meant to suggest that they have no competition, however, as New York was not the only team to improve during the offseason, with the Rays making their usual under-the-radar moves that will help them win and the Blue Jays made a big splash signing with Hyun-Jin Ryu.  Let’s dive into the predictions. Former Yankees First Baseman and General Manager, Bob “Bull” Watson, has passed away after a battle with kidney disease. Watson became the first African-American General Manager to win a World Series in 1996, after putting together the 1996 Yankees who ended the franchise’s 18-year drought without a World Series Title.  Watson and his successor, Brian Cashman (Photo by Michael  Schwartz) Watson also has a gold medal, as the Chairman of USA Baseball’s selection committee for the 2000 Olympics. Watson is still the only executive to hold a gold medal in addition to a World Series ring. As a player, Watson played 19 seasons, earning himself two All-Star Game appearances in 1973 and 1975 and receiving votes for MVP in three seasons. He played 14 seasons with the Houston Astros before playing a season with the Red Sox, and three each with the Yankees and Atlanta Braves. The Yankees’ offseason is off to a great start. The club’s main focus all along was to add Gerrit Cole, finally giving New York the true, dominant Ace, they have needed.  In the days following, the team was able to retain veteran outfielder Brett Gardner.  Now, the Yankees could look to the trade market to round out their roster and get set for 2020.
