After another New York Yankee was injured in today's loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees have called up Spring Training standout Miguel Andujar to replace outfielder Billy McKinney on the 25-man roster, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com . Photo Credit: Charles Wenzelberg Last season, Andujar batted .315 with 16 home runs and 82 RBI while playing for the Yankees’ Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. Andujar only played in 15 games this spring, but during those games he slugged four home runs, batted .267, and had a tremendous .928 OPS. Critics of Andujar questioned whether he was ready defensively for the MLB; he struggled in the minors with consistency in the field, and while he has a very strong arm, he needs to work on his throws’ accuracy. Today’s starting lineup was released earlier this afternoon and you don’t need to look at it long to see some interesting choices. Remember yesterday when reports came out that Aaron Judge will likely see some time in center with the absence of both Aaron Hicks and Jacoby Ellsbury? Well, one day later and guess who’s playing center and batting second? Nu mber 99. With Masahiro Tanaka giving up a homer in the second inning, it looked like as if we were in line for a classic tee-ball Tanaka outing, and that the over would be guaranteed. Tanaka pitched lights out after that, however, and once again the Toronto Blue Jays did nothing to help the over. The 2018 New York Yankees have an insane amount of star power, headed by the power-hitting duo of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Baseball fans all over the country know these two names extremely well, and even non-sports fans are becoming familiar with these stars. Both players showed why they have gained their popularity in the Yankees' 6-1 win over the Blue Jays on Opening Day; Stanton made an incredible first impression with two no-doubt home runs, and Judge hit a line-drive double that displayed glimpses of his amazing 2017 season. However, stars like Judge and Stanton are just like any other player; they have games where they perform well and games where they do not. Well, Opening Day 2018 is in the books and the Yankees took the field yesterday afternoon in Toronto to begin a campaign that will be ripe with expectation and intrigue. Wielding a deep and talented roster with a shiny new toy in the middle of it, new manager Aaron Boone was able to notch his first win (more coming on that later today) and help the Yankees snap an Opening Day losing streak that stretched all the way back to 2011. Yankee fans, we did it. We finally made it to Opening Day. The long, cold offseason has ended and meaningful Yankees baseball has returned, and it retuned with an exclamation mark. With one of the most feared bullpens in the sport, the Yankees are a force to be reckoned with. However in a stacked bullpen there is still some room for other Yankees to step up. As of right now, one guy who has a very bright future, if he is able to put it all together, is Jonathan Holder. Many people remember Holder for breaking his belt in his short stint with the Yankees back in 2016, but Holder had a very quiet 2017 season that showed he had a lot of major league potential. Holder, who is just 24 years old, was sent back in forth from the majors and the minors in his first two MLB seasons, but it is looking more and more promising for the hard throwing right hander as he made the team out of spring training. While there is a lot of hype surrounding the Yankees going into the season, not much has been said about the return of the wily vet CC Sabathia. Sabathia returned to the Yankees on a club friendly deal because he saw the potential in this young group of guys, being quoted as saying, “I want to see this thing through, I want to come back here and finish things off”. He was crucial in the Yankees' success last year, becoming the stopper, going 9-0 when following a loss with a 1.71 ERA. I attended my first “Bleacher Creature” game in 2008 against the Toronto Blue Jays. The crowd was electric, and chanted “you get paid in monopoly money” at Vernon Wells for nine innings. It is almost symbolic that 2018’s Opening Day, and my first betting tip article for the Bronx Bomber Ball, comes against those same Blue Jays.  Unlike Vernon Wells, the goal here is to make some real cash. In the era of extravagant ballpark tastings, Major League Baseball teams are constantly looking for new ways to satiate their diverse fan bases. Long gone are the days when peanuts and Cracker Jacks were enough to keep bellies full, and butts in the seats. From the Astros’ Chicken Waffle Cone , to the D-Backs’ Churro Dog , teams continue to find new ways to get fans out to the ballpark, and keep them happy once they’re there. Last Monday, the Yankees held a media tasting event to roll out their new offerings for the 2018 season, which included a machine that imprints player faces onto beer foam (if you’re going to pay $15 for a beer, why not have Aaron Judge’s likeness on it, right?). A novel idea, to be sure, but that did not stop MLB from putting the kibosh on the whole plan, once again exposing the league’s hypocrisy when it comes to alcohol.   Photo Credit: The Comeback
