A-Rod’s 3 Homer Game & John Ryan Murphy’s Go-Ahead 3-Run HR in the 9th Give Yanks a Win


The Yankees came off one of its worst losses of the year in a 10-1 defeat last night. In an effort to get revenge, they sent CC Sabathia to the hill in Game 2. Sabathia came off one of his best games of the year, beating King Felix in his last outing. Minnesota sent Tommy Milone to the hill. The Yankees played one of its best games of the year and won 8-5.
Game 2 (Saturday, July 25) - Yankees 8 @ Twins 5

1st Inning
The Yankees did not score in the top of the 1st. Aaron Hicks of the Twins hit a 2-run home run off CC Sabathia to give Minnesota the 2-0 lead.

2nd Inning
Neither team threatened in the 2nd inning.

3rd Inning
Aaron Hicks led off the inning with a single. Then, Miguel Sano reached on an infield single. The next batter, Torii Hunter, hit a 3-run home run to right that gave Minnesota the 5-0 lead. Things looked bleak as CC Sabathia struggled in the game and the Yankees could not produce any offense.

4th Inning
Alex Rodriguez innocently hit a home run to center that measured 450 feet to cut the deficit to 4. The Twins led 5-1 after 4 innings.

5th Inning
Both pitchers sent down their opponents 1-2-3 in the 5th.

6th Inning
After Sabathia recorded 2 outs, he walked Kurt Suzuki, hit Danny Santana, and walked Dozier. Adam Warren came on after this to record the final out of the 6th and keep the Yankees’ rally alive.

7th Inning
The Yankees finally woke up. Chris Young led off the inning with a double and A-Rod hit his SECOND home run, once again deep to center, to give the Yankees hope. The Yankees only trailed 5-3 now. Mark Teixeira then doubled. Brian Duensing came on in relief. Chase Headley got Teixeira home on a sac fly after Beltran moved him over to third. The Yankees only trailed 5-4 now.

8th Inning
Trevor May came in for Minnesota and Gardner reached second with two outs on a single and error. However, McCann struck out swinging and May got out of the threat. Adam Warren completed his 2.1 IP in relief and pitched very well. He didn’t allow a run.

9th Inning
Glen Perkins, the designated American League All-Star closer, failed in his first pitch. He faced A-Rod first. On his first pitch of the inning, A-Rod smoked ANOTHER home run and tied the game at 5! His THIRD of the day! There were runners on the corners with one out when John Ryan Murphy came to the plate. And he delivered. John Ryan Murphy SMOKED a deeep home run to right center, over the scoreboard at Target Field, and THE YANKEES LED 8-5! Andrew Miller pitched a 1-2-3 9th and the Yankees won 8-5!
