Yankees recall RHP Ronald Herrera from Double-A Trenton prior to Wednesday’s game
After
CC Sabathia’s unfortunate injury news, the Yankees decided to call up another
arm to be apart of the big league staff. Rather than their typical Scranton Shuttle move,
they chose to recall a RHP from AA Trenton named Ronald Herrera.
Herrera
was acquired by the Yankees prior to the 2016 season from the San Diego Padres in
the trade that shipped infielder Jose Pirela out west.
The
22-year-old deservedly earned his call up by posting videogame-like numbers for
the Thunder. Working primarily as a starter, Herrera posted a 7-0 record with a
miniscule 1.07 ERA to begin his 2017 campaign. Herrera may be used as a spot
starter for Sabathia’s next turn in the rotation or could aid the Yankees
tonight after Sabathia only was able to give the Yankees four innings before
his injury forced Girardi to turn to his relievers.
