Yankees MLB Draft 2017: Yankees select Dalton Lehnen from Augustana College with the 182nd pick of the sixth round
The Yankees continued to roll with their pitcher heavy draft
picks, selecting LHP Dalton Lehnen from Augustana College in the sixth round,
and 182nd overall. The 21 year-old is the first left handed pitcher
selected in this year’s draft by the Yankees.

Lehnen was born in Burnsville, Minnesota, in 1996.
Throughout his high school baseball career, he enjoyed a lot of success, and finished
with a 15-4 record and 141 strikeouts in just 105.2 innings pitched. He was an
All-South Suburban Conference selection in 2012 and 2013, an All-Metro and
All-Section honoree in 2013, a conference champion in 2013 and 2014, a section
champion in 2013 and 2014, a state consolation champion in 2013, and a
conference second runner-up in 2012. This guy sure sounds like a winner, huh?
Before attending Augustana, Lehnen spent two years at the
University of Cincinnati. In his freshman year, he appeared in 16 games, 13 of
which were starts, and struck out 49 in 68 innings. He also pitched three
innings in relief during the American Athletic Conference Championship game
against Memphis, where he gave up just one hit.
Once he transferred to Augustana his junior year, he started
to really dominate. He made 11 appearances as a pitcher (10 starts), where he
had a 2.60 ERA in 52 innings. He struck out 61, which was second most on the team,
walked only 20, and had a whopping.183 batting average against.
Overall, the Yanks made a solid pick in Lehnen. He’s by no
means a finished product, but if he can keep up the dominance that he displayed
this past season, he could be an impact pitcher in the future.
