Yankees top prospect Gleyber Torres leaves game with elbow injury, placed on 7-day DL (VIDEO)
While things can’t get much worse for the Yankees at the big league level as the team is riding a five game losing skid, the Yankees received another blow in the minor leagues after top prospect Gleyber Torres left last night’s game with an elbow injury.
The RailRiders placed Torres on the 7-day DL today, but Torres took to Twitter to express his good spirits following the injury.
The 20-year-old phenom suffered the injury on an awkward slide into home plate and immediately came up grabbing at his left elbow in what looked like a painful play. The initial diagnosis is a hyperextended left-elbow, but X-rays came back negative for Torres.Thank you all for your good wishes I feel better today just have to rest.! #GleyberGood— Gleyber Torres (@TorresGleyber) June 18, 2017

This injury comes at a tough time for Torres who was hitting his stride against Triple-A competition. In 23 games, Torres was slashing .309/.406/.457 with two home runs, four doubles, one triple and 16 RBIs. There had been recent reports earlier this week that Torres could see action in the Bronx as early as the trade deadline.
While everyone is focused on the team’s struggles in the Major Leagues, the Yankees will also be monitoring this situation closely, as more details arise.
