Yankees Roster Update: Recapping 40-man roster moves 11/20/17

Image
Entering the day, the New York Yankees had 37 players occupying their 40-man roster with an 8:00 PM EST deadline looming in which 40-man rosters across baseball would freeze ahead of the December 5th Rule 5 Draft. The Yankees had a number of top prospects outside the 40-man roster who would otherwise be Rule 5 eligible unless added, but not enough spots to protect them all.  At the start of the day, the team was looking to protect INF Gleyber Torres, RHP Domingo Acevedo, INF Thairo Estrada, 1B/OF Billy McKinney & RHP Albert Abreu. Trying to make sense of Mason Williams' and Tyler Webb's demotions

As a Yankee fan, the Scranton-Shuttle is a familiar term for what seems like a never-ending cycle of relief pitchers and, to a smaller extent, position players constantly coming up to the Major League Club, spending minimal time with the Yankees, and then packing their bags to go back to the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate in Scranton. Series Preview: New York Yankees @ Oakland Athletics (6/15-6/18)

Image
The West Coast trip continues for the Yankees on Thursday, as they begin a four-game series against the Athletics in Oakland. With the exception of Tuesday, the Yankee offense has been unstoppable lately, most notably Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Didi Gregorius, and they’ll look to continue that against an A’s team that they took two out of three from them at the end of May. At 27-38 and 16.5 games out of the AL West, Oakland should be an easy task for the red-hot Yankees. Whether they capitalize on this remains to be seen.

Sanchez homers, but Yankees drop series finale on late-inning home run

The New York Yankees blew an early 4-0 first inning lead and Michael Pineda showed his bad side once again as the Bombers dropped the rubber game of the three game series with the Los Angeles Angels 7-5. Andrelton Simmons gave the Angels the lead for good in the seventh with a two-run home run off Ronald Herrera and Parker Bridwell pitched 3 ⅔ innings of relief for Los Angeles. Photo Credit: Jae C. Yankees recall RHP Ronald Herrera from Double-A Trenton prior to Wednesday’s game

Image
After CC Sabathia’s unfortunate injury news, the Yankees decided to call up another arm to be apart of the big league staff. Rather than their typical Scranton Shuttle move, they chose to recall a RHP from AA Trenton named Ronald Herrera. Photo Credit: MILB.com Herrera was acquired by the Yankees prior to the 2016 season from the San Diego Padres in the trade that shipped infielder Jose Pirela out west. The 22-year-old deservedly earned his call up by posting videogame-like numbers for the Thunder. Working primarily as a starter, Herrera posted a 7-0 record with a miniscule 1.07 ERA to begin his 2017 campaign. Herrera may be used as a spot starter for Sabathia’s next turn in the rotation or could aid the Yankees tonight after Sabathia only was able to give the Yankees four innings before his injury forced Girardi to turn to his relievers. Minor league update part 2: Trenton Thunder

Trenton Thunder: 19-16 (3rd in Eastern League Eastern Division Standings, 4.0 games back) Overall : Although the Trenton Thunder lack the Yankees top talent in the farm system, they have a solid team. Still, this Thunder team is comprised of Tyler Austin (#30 in our rankings), Cale Coshow (#27), Dustin Fowler (#7), Jonathan Holder (#22) and Tyler Wade (#14). They’re also getting contributions from others which has propelled them to their solid current standing.
