Yankees sign INF/OF Jace Peterson to minor league deal

The Yankees agreed to sign former Braves INF/OF Jace Peterson to a minor league deal, which was first reported by SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo. He will receive an invitation to spring training, and if he makes the club, will earn $900,000 in the majors.

Peterson, who was non-tendered by the Braves, will compete for a job in the Yankee infield, which had two openings after the trades of Starlin Castro and Chase Headley. However, he is coming off a rough 2017, where he hit just .218/.318/.317, with two homers in 215 plate appearances. His career numbers of .234/.319/.331 aren’t too strong either, but at 27, he’s still young and has shown tools in the past that could help him become an useful player in the major leagues.
