Tanaka, Didi Lead Yankees Over Indians 3-2

In the wake of Alex Rodriguez’s press conference, the Yankees were able to capitalize on key hits and another stellar performance from Masahiro Tanaka. The bullpen was also able to shut things down and the Yankees win the season series over Cleveland 5-2

The Yankees opened the scoring in the first inning when Brett Gardner led off with a booming triple and then Jacoby Ellsbury was able to drive him in on a sacrifice to center field against starter Carlos Carrasco. In the fourth inning Didi Gregorius was able to come through on his bobblehead day with a solo shot to right field for his 13th home run of the season. The Yankees went on to score their third and final run of the game in the fifth inning when Mark Teixeira scorched an opposite field RBI double to left to score Ellsbury.

Masahiro Tanaka was able to rebound from his last start as he was able to pitch six innings, allowing just one run on six hits while adding eight strikeouts and walking none. His lone earned run was scored on a RBI single from Roberto Perez with Adam Warren pitching.

The Yankee bullpen was able to lock down the win after Tanaka’s exit. Adam Warren pitched the seventh and Tyler Clippard started the eighth and struck out two batters before bringing in Dellin Betances to get the four out save.

While the Yankees were out hit (eight to five) and out fielded (three errors to none), they did manage to outscore the Indians which is all that matters at the end of the day.

The Yankees will have an off day tomorrow as they travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox. Luis Severino (1-6, 6.02 ERA) will get his first start since May for the Yankees against Rick Porcello (14-3, 3.46 ERA).
