Yankees hit five home runs including back-to-back by Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge in 8-4 win

After saying goodbye to the Alex Rodriguez era with the New York Yankees, there was actually an aroma of optimism surrounding the New York Yankees. The Yankees announced they were calling up corner outfielder and corner infielder Tyler Austin after his stellar renaissance year in the minor leagues. Then, the Yankees announced they were calling up 6’7” outfielder and household name prospect Aaron Judge. With both penciled in at the seventh and eighth spots in the lineup, they wasted no time stealing the show in their first career plate appearances. Baby Bombers turned Bronx Bombers, Austin and Judge hit back-to-back home runs - the first pair of teammates to hit back-to-back dingers in their first career at-bats in MLB history - as they propelled themselves to fan favorites. Building off that momentum, the Yankees would beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-4 as the ball was flying out of Yankee Stadium today with five Yankee homers.

With the future beginning now, Austin and Judge put the Yankees on the board in the second inning with back-to-back solo shots. Austin’s blast a very nice piece of hitting utilizing the short porch going opposite field as the ball travelled 331 feet. Judge followed Austin's lead with an absolute bomb to dead center field traveling 446 feet. The baseball world exploded when the Yankee youth took flight in the manner that they did.

Masahiro Tanaka was on the hill for the Yankees and after retiring the first 10 hitters he faced, Kevin Kiermaier broke up his fourth inning perfect game in the works with a beautiful bunt down the third base line. Evan Longoria was next with a single to right field. The ensuing batter Brad Miller hit an opposite field home run to put the Rays ahead 3-2.
The Yankees stormed right back to tie the game in the fourth inning on Starlin Castro’s 14th home run of the season.

Judge led off the bottom of the fifth inning with his second career hit on a seeing-eye single through the 5.5 hole. Jacoby Ellsbury would move Judge to third on a single to right field. Aaron Hicks then hit a second deck no-doubter tank to give the Yankees a 6-3 lead.
Brad Miller put the Rays to within two runs on his second home run of the day and 22nd of the season in the top of the sixth inning off Masahiro Tanaka. Didi Gregorius - batting cleanup today - answered in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run shot to give the Yankees an 8-4 lead. It was the first time that the Yankees had five players age 26 or younger hit home runs in the same game.

 Tyler Clippard pitched a three-up, three-down eighth inning to. Anthony Swarzak then entered in the ninth to face Longoria, who singled off Swarzak who was then lifted for Tommy Layne. Layne set the Rays down in order to secure the 8-4 win.

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George.
