BBB writers on Yankees trade deadline moves

Image
Coming into this year’s trade deadline, Brian Cashman claimed the Yankees would be “careful buyers.” With that, Cashman was looking for controllable assets without compromising the future, and he did just that. In his first move, Cashman dealt a potentially blocked prospect in Blake Rutherford, often-injured arm in Ian Clarkin, lower level prospect in Tito Polo and struggling reliever Tyler Clippard to the Chicago White Sox for David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle and Todd Frazier . Then, the Yankees went out and acquired lefty Jaime Garcia from the Twins for pitching prospects Zack Littell and Dietrich Enns. Finally, the Yankees acquired Sonny Gray in a final-hour splash for prospects Dustin Fowler, Jorge Mateo, and James Kaprielian. Yankees Trade Deadline Preview: Outfield

Image
Brian Cashman's now infamous words of claiming the Yankees will be "careful buyer" has seemingly gone by the wayside in the wake of  last night's blockbuster trade  in which the Yankees dealt their number three overall prospect Blake Rutherford, double-A  outfielder Tito Polo, single-A starting pitcher Ian Clarkin, and much maligned relief pitcher Tyler Clippard to the Chicago White Sox for 1B/3B Todd Frazier and relievers  David Robertson and Tommy  Ka hnle .    In part two of our Trade Deadline Preview series, I'll be discussing the  outfield situation and some of the players previously connected to the Yankees.   **As a disclaimer, I firmly believe the Yankees are set in the outfield and  will  not  be trading for another outfielder, but keeping with the template of our series, we'll look at potential trade targets, as well as pieces the Yankees might even look to deal from  their  plethora of outfielder...

Rapid Reaction: Seven reasons why the Yankees/White Sox trade is a great deal for the New York Yankees

Image
Last night, the New York Yankees pulled off a seven-player blockbuster where they officially dealt prospects Blake Rutherford, Ian Clarkin and Tito Polo as well as reliever Tyler Clippard to the Chicago White Sox for relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle as well as Todd Frazier. Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman noted that the Yankees would be buyers at the deadline, and he is sticking to his guns in what looks like another great deal for the New York Yankees. In honor of the seven-player deal, here are seven reasons why this is a great deal for the Yankees. Photo Credit: Getty Images via New York Post 1. In making this deal with White Sox GM Rick Hahn, the Yankees have effectively kept Todd Frazier and David Robertson away from the first place Red Sox. Right off the bat, you have to mention the fact that both the Yankees and the Red Sox were in on the players in this deal. At the top of the division, Boston has an even bigger hole at third base and no proven s...

BREAKING: Yankees acquire David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle and Todd Frazier from White Sox

Image
The Yankees and the White Sox struck a blockbuster deal on Tuesday night after the Yankees officially acquired 3B/1B Todd Frazier, RHP David Robertson and RHP Tommy Kahnle. In return, the White Sox acquired a package headlined by OF Blake Rutherford that included prospects LHP Ian Clarkin, and OF Tito Polo as well as RHP Tyler Clippard. Photo Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports For the Yankees, they are reuniting with Robertson who is signed through next season where he is owed $13 million. As for Kahnle, the 27-year-old is controlled through 2020. Frazier, on the other hand, is a free agent at the end of this season as he is effectively a rental who solves the Yankees problem at either first or third base. The Yankees could elect to resign Frazier to a short term deal this offseason. Frazier has hit to a disappointing-looking .207/.328/.432 line, but he has 16 homers, 15 doubles and 44 RBIs. He has been victimized by bad luck with a .214 BABIP, and he is not a big...

Clippard surrenders grand slam to sink Yankees in series opener

Image
Rain proved to be an enormous factor Friday night in the Bronx. The reason why; it forced an early and unwelcomed appearance once again by the Yankees bullpen. The lengthy delay effectively chased starter Jordan Montgomery from the game after 4 ⅓ innings of solid work. In the sixth inning, a combination of Tyler Webb and Tyler Clippard allowed the Brewers to quickly tie the game at four runs. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of the terror to come once again in the late innings. Photo Credit: Kathy Willens | AP Clippard’s 7th inning was the stuff of nightmares for Yankees fans everywhere. He walked the bases loaded before allowing Jesus Aguilar to wallop a long two-out grand slam. It was a slow, grueling experience to watch this inning unfold in the worst possible way once again for the Yankees. In an instant, the Yankees had lost another chance to win a close ballgame and instead faced a 4 run deficit. The 2017 edition of the Yankees bullpen has become so bad that ...
