Player update: We need to talk about Luke Voit

Not only is John Sterling's former home run call for Luke Voit a gross understatement of Voit's current contributions to the 2020 Yankees, but Voit has never been more adroit than he is at this moment of the erratic 2020 MLB season. 

He leads MLB in home runs 
Not even Mike Trout (yes, that Mike Trout) has gone yard as many times as Voit has so far in this shortened season.  Following the Yanks’ September 16th victory against the Blue Jays, Voit has recorded 19 home runs, two of which were hit in the September 15th 20-3 victory also against the Blue Jays.  That matchup marked Voit’s third multi-homer game of 2020. Oh, and he threw in another solo shot on September 17th... you know, for good measure.  Even DJ LeMahieu, a possible contender for a top home run hitter himself, predicts that Voit will end the season with more home runs than Trout:
He was a team leader and consistent performer when the other big bats were injured 
Names including Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton found themselves on the injured list in recent weeks, and in addition, LeMahieu, Gio Urshela and Gleyber Torres have all spent time riding the pine.  But not Voit.  He is currently hitting .283, is 49-for-173 on the season, with 46 RBIs, 14 walks and 44 strikeouts.  

He’s playing with the “foot stuff” 
Anyone who has watched Voit round the bases upon hitting his many home runs has noticed that he’s limping.   But, neither Voit nor Aaron Boone has alluded to what this “foot stuff” really is. Why?  We can assume, because Voit doesn’t care what it is -- he’s going to keep playing regardless.  And he’s convinced Boone that he can play through the pain. 

“I want to be out there,” Voit told the press. “I’m going to do everything possible to make sure I can play.” 

And finally, he tells it like it is in a postgame presser 
When the Yankees were awful just nine days ago, Voit had the guts to say it out loud.
But now that the Yankees are on the ultimate redemption tour… Mic drop. Voit, out.

Five keys to a successful 2016

Being trapped inside for the last two days due to the snowstorm that pounded the entire eastern seaboard has only enhanced my desire for the return of baseball season. Considering all indications from ownership point to the Yankees being done for the most part as far as additions are concerned, I felt as if now would be a prompt time to make some early predictions about the 2016 season. As I look at the Yankees team as currently comprised, I'm feeling the same sense of uncertainty as I did at this point last season. A successful 2016 season is contingent on production from players who are either old, injury prone, or in some cases, a combination of both. Normally, this would seem to be a recipe for disaster, however I'm going to try the optimistic route. Below, are what I view as the five keys to a successful 2016.
