Yankees acquire Terrance Gore

The Yankees swung a minor trade with the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday to acquire outfielder/pinch runner Terrance Gore. Gore, who had been designated for assignment Friday, evidently cleared outright waivers and will head to Triple-A.

Gore had been in the midst of a solid season, hitting .275 with a .362 OBP and 14 stolen bases in his first shot at extended MLB action. As a member of the Cubs, he infamously stole second base in the 8th inning of last year’s NL Wild Card game, going on to score the tying run on an RBI double. It’s unlikely he appears in a game for the Yankees until September, when he’ll be ticketed for a call-up as the window to add postseason-eligible players closes. 

Gore is the dictionary definition of pinch-runner. Entering the season, he had actually recorded 27 stolen bases to just 19 plate appearances at the major league level. His track record in the minors holds up as well - Gore swiped 293 bags while being caught just 35 times over 665 games. This is a crucial acquisition for the Yankees; Gore’s services were likely coveted by multiple contenders as the trade deadline draws near. Now, the Yankees will welcome one of baseball’s premier late-game threats to their bench as they chase their 28th World Series championship.

Five keys to a successful 2016

Being trapped inside for the last two days due to the snowstorm that pounded the entire eastern seaboard has only enhanced my desire for the return of baseball season. Considering all indications from ownership point to the Yankees being done for the most part as far as additions are concerned, I felt as if now would be a prompt time to make some early predictions about the 2016 season. As I look at the Yankees team as currently comprised, I'm feeling the same sense of uncertainty as I did at this point last season. A successful 2016 season is contingent on production from players who are either old, injury prone, or in some cases, a combination of both. Normally, this would seem to be a recipe for disaster, however I'm going to try the optimistic route. Below, are what I view as the five keys to a successful 2016.
