Starlin Castro's walk off home run gives Yankees 9-8 win

The New York Yankees and Colorado Rockies have a tendency to put up a lot of runs when they play each other. Today was no exception, except the Yankees actually came out on top. Both teams combined for 19 hits and 17 runs in the Yankees 9-8 win thanks to a walk-off homer from Starlin Castro.

New York’s offense was led in a familiar method that usually leads to winning ways, the long ball. Castro led off the 9th inning and blasted a walk-off homer to win the game for the Yankees in the bottom of the 9th. Earlier in the afternoon, after loading the bases with no outs in the 2nd, Chase Headley blasted a grand slam off of Jon Gray (4-3, 4.80 ERA) to dead center to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.

Down 8-4 in the 7th, Carlos Beltran smacked a clutch three run homer to bring the Yankees within a run. The home run was Beltran’s 19th of the season, the amount he had all of last year. Didi Gregorius, who’s been on a tear, followed Beltran’s homer up with an RBI single after Brian McCann got on with a ground rule double.

The Yankees were 4-11 with RISP, much better than last night’s showing of going 0-10 with RISP.

Yankees starter C.C Sabathia (5-5, 2.71 ERA), who had been cruising this season, turned in his first bad outing in a long time. In just four innings today, he gave up the same number of earned runs he had allowed in his previous 44 innings prior to today's start, four.

Nick Hundley and Ryan Raburn both hit home runs today for Colorado. Anthony Swarzak, after a great performance yesterday, struggled in his inning of work today. “No Runs DMC” made an appearance today, and the trio dominated. Each had 1-2-3 innings and combined for six strikeouts.
