Pineda's strong outing leads Yankees past Orioles extending winning streak to four games

The Yankees came into this series against the first place Baltimore Orioles extremely desperate to win three out of the four games. Anything below winning three games would have been a failure, and the team most likely would have gone into sell mode immediately.  Lead tonight by Michael Pineda in a 5-0 win, the Yankees have won the first three games of the series and will look to go for the sweep tomorrow afternoon.

Michael Pineda was at his best tonight as he shut down the Orioles short-handed lineup for six innings. He maneuvered his way out of damage multiple times tonight especially in the fourth inning where he loaded the bases with one out and was able to get away unscathed thanks to two big strikeouts. He had his electric slider working tonight and that made all the difference. One could only hope Pineda could use this start to springboard him into a successful finish to the season.

Dellin Betances took the ball from Pineda and posted a scoreless seventh inning. Nick Goody followed with a scoreless eighth and Chasen Shreve closed it out with a clean ninth inning. This is the second game in a row where Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman were able to get rest and the Yankees were still able to pick up a win.

The Yankees offense was able to score in the first inning for the first time in a long time (23 games) after Brett Gardner lead the game off with a triple. He was brought in by a Carlos Beltran sacrifice fly.

Mark Teixeira had a strong night at the plate as he belted a solo shot over the right field wall in the fourth inning.  He got another RBI on a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning to put the Yankees up 3-0.

The offense did however miss a huge opportunity to break the game open in the sixth inning. They were only able to push across one run after loading the bases with one out.

Ronald Torreyes scored on a sacrifice fly by Brett Gardner in the seventh to make it 4-0 and Carlos Beltran made it 5-0 after his solo shot to right field in the eighth inning.

The Baltimore Orioles played this game without its superstars Manny Machado, and Chris Davis because they are both battling the flu. Hopefully they get well after the game tomorrow.
