Yankees resign CC Sabathia

Earlier news broke by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com that the New York Yankees have resigned CC Sabathia to a one-year deal worth $10 million. Sabathia has been with the Yanks since 2009 when he inked a seven-year, $161 million deal. He's been the veteran pitching staff leader, a role that was once filled by fellow southpaw, Andy Pettite. In 2018, Sabathia will provide veteran leadership for rookie manager Aaron Boone and a young Yankee roster.

Sabathia, 37, was the stopper for the Bombers in 2017 going 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 27 starts. He was picked as the starter for the Yankees in game five of the ALDS in Cleveland, as well as for game seven of the ALCS. The Yankees relied heavily on Sabathia, so it is no surprise that they elected to bring him back. And Brian Cashman may not be done just yet.

 The Bombers are reportedly still talking to Pittsburgh about Gerrit Cole, but those talks may be dying out soon. CC’s resigning gives the Yankees five starters.

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George.
