Breaking: Phil Nevin will be the new Yankees third base coach, Mike Harkey returning as the bullpen coach
Shortly
after the news broke about the Yankees new bench coach Josh Bard, it was
reported by Bob Nightengale that former Giants’ third base coach Phil Nevin
will be the new Yankees' third base coach and that Mike Harkey will be returning
as the bullpen coach.
Nevin, 46, is another relatively young coach that will be added to Boone’s staff, but he has a solid amount of coaching experience. Along with his experience as the Giants; third base coach in 2017, he managed the Double and Triple-A affiliates of the Tigers for two seasons and was manager of the Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate, the Reno Aces, for three seasons. Former players have raved about his precense in the dugout and he projects as a future manager in the majors.
Harkey
was the Yankees bullpen coach from 2008-2013 and for the past two seasons.
Harkey is well respected amongst the Yankee relievers and it is not surprising
to see him back, after how dominant the Yankees bullpen was for a majority of
last season.
