Silenced offense and shaky bullpen lead to Yankees 5-1 loss to Boston
Coming into today’s game, the Yankees sat four games back of the AL East division lead, making this matchup very important. The pitching matchup had Sonny Gray on the mound for the Yanks, and the reigning CY Young winner in Rick Porcello on the mound for the Red Sox. Sonny Gray did not have his best stuff, but kept the Yankees in the game, however, Rick Porcello and the Red Sox bullpen kept the Yankees offense quiet other than a solo home run courtesy of Brett Gardner.

The Yankees would finally get on the board thanks to Brett Gardner’s 20th homer of the season, tucking it right over the wall near the Pesky Pole, making the score 2-1 Red Sox.
Boston would then increase their lead by one more run in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out RBI single off the bat of Bradley Jr. again, extending the lead to 3-1. Adam Warren was the one to give up that run, and prior to that at bat, he had held hitters 0-22 with runners in scoring position and two outs.
The Red Sox would add to their lead with a two RBI double in the bottom of the eighth. That would end up being the final score line.
