BBB writers react to Joe Girardi not returning in 2018

Image
After over two weeks of the news that Joe Girardi would not be managing the Yankees in 2018 broke, the BBB writers have had a chance to react to the news. One of the greatest things about the staff is that we have a wide variety of opinions regarding our New York Yankees, so here are a few of our writer's thoughts regarding the news that Brian Cashman elected to go in a different direction from Girardi as he continues building another potential dynasty in the Bronx. Yankees stay scorching hot behind another dominant outing by Severino in 6-1 win over Rays

Image
The main storyline coming into tonight’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays was that the Yankees are three games back with five games to play. With last night’s win, the Bombers solidified homefield advantage for next tuesday’s American League Wild-Card Game, but are still looking to make up ground on the rival Red Sox in the Divisional race. The Yanks can’t control what happens outside of their matchup, yet they looked to keep their winning ways rolling against the now playoff eliminated Rays. Luis Severino dished out another fantastic outing going six innings, striking out nine batters while allowing only one run. That is one stat line that he leads in the majors, marking his 16th time this season allowing either one or less earned runs in a start in the Yankees 6-1 victory. Yankees win series finale winning first series in Camden Yards since 2013

Image
The Yankees looked to win this series in game three against the Baltimore Orioles, in Baltimore, for the first time since 2013. That is exactly what they did on a day in which this game was rescheduled from yesterday’s rainout.  Not only did they receive a beautiful start from the right hander Sonny Gray, they also continued their scoring ways with another road game in which they’ve scored six or more runs en route to a big 9-1 victory. Yankees drop chippy series finale that included multiple benches clearing brawls

Image
The Yankees were red hot, coming into the series finale winning the first two games by scores of 13-4 and 10-2 respectively. With the Yankees looking for the sweep, the Tigers weren’t going to allow another blow out. The Tigers sent out their ace Michael Fulmer to the mound to take on Jaime Garcia. Garcia has been rather consistent for the Yankees since coming over from the Minnesota Twins, but with Fulmer on the mound he had to be on top of his game. The scoring would be back in forth for most of the game, but much like the scoring, both teams went at each other three times with benches clearing brawls, involving countless ejections. Unfortunately for the Yankees, more players on their side were forced to leave. This game would be known as a slugfest for more ways than one, with a final score of 10-6 Detroit Tigers. Silenced offense and shaky bullpen lead to Yankees 5-1 loss to Boston

Image
Coming into today’s game, the Yankees sat four games back of the AL East division lead, making this matchup very important. The pitching matchup had Sonny Gray on the mound for the Yanks, and the reigning CY Young winner in Rick Porcello on the mound for the Red Sox. Sonny Gray did not have his best stuff, but kept the Yankees in the game, however, Rick Porcello and the Red Sox bullpen kept the Yankees offense quiet other than a solo home run courtesy of Brett Gardner. Masahiro Tanaka hits the 10-day DL, Gallegos up

Image
The injury bug strikes again for the Yanks with Masahiro Tanaka heading to the 10-day DL with shoulder inflammation. This is the second starter in the rotation to go down this week, with CC  Sabathia  going down with right knee soreness and also being placed on the 10-day DL. Now, with Tanaka down, there’s a hole that needs to be filled in the rotation. After starting the season rather poorly, Tanaka has been getting back to his “Ace” type ways.  Over his last four starts he’s given up eight earned over 24 innings pitched, while also striking out 31.    Photo Credit: AP The coinciding move that was made with Tanaka hitting the DL was t he promotion of  Giovanny  Gallegos  from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  Currently at the major league level Gallegos has pitched in nine games, boasting a 7.15 ERA through 11.1 IP, while also striking out 11.  Article by: Vinny Romita Follow @CDRomida Follow @BronxBomberBall

Yankees falter with RISP yet again, shut out by Blue Jays

Image
A night after an offensive explosion where the Yankees scored 11, they come back and struggled against the ever mediocre Marco Estrada. Estrada seemingly always has the Yanks number and tonight was no different. Early on they had the extra base-hit stroke, starting off the game with three doubles over three innings, but the issue that has been looming over the Yanks for weeks now with runners in scoring position came back to haunt them, ultimately going 0-9. Chase Headley's clutch home run and solid pitching allow the Yankees to best the Indians 2-1

Image
The Yankees entered tonight’s matchup on a four-game losing streak. The man looking to turn the Yankees' fortunes around was Jordan Montgomery. Thanks to the acquisitions at the deadline by Brian Cashman, the Yankees now have six starters, with Montgomery being the sixth man and the possible odd man out if they end up switching back to a five man rotation. With that being said, this was Montgomery’s big chance to show his team what he can do, and he showed up.  Photo Credit: Phil Long | AP

Montgomery surrenders six runs with two outs in second inning to sink Yankees in 6-1 loss

Image
The Yankees looked to finally get over the hump and get their first series win in over a month but unfortunately fell short. Promising to be a very good matchup on paper between Jordan Montgomery and Jose Berrios turned out to be a one sided affair, with Berrios dominating over six plus innings. Montgomery out of the gates just didn’t have they command that we are used to seeing. He was able to avoid trouble in the first inning, but what did him in was the bottom of the second where Minnesota exploded for six runs (all with two outs) on five hits scattered throughout the inning. From there on out he was rather solid, limiting the Twins hitters to only two hits, yet the deficit was just too much for the Yankees to overcome as they dropped the game and the series with a 6-1 loss. Rookies steal the show as Miguel Andujar drives home four runs in 12-3 Yankee win

Image
After losing Tuesday night’s loss in heartbreaking walk-off fashion, the Yankees looked to bounce back with Masahiro Tanaka on the mound. Coming into the game, all eyes were on Miguel Andujar and Tyler Wade, who both made their first career starts. Both players made immediate impacts, recording their first big league hits, and Andujar had a huge 3-for-4 night with four RBIs. That was just the beginning as the Yankee bats came alive to score eight runs, and Tanaka showed more promise, firing a quality start en route to a commanding 12-3 victory. Photo Credit: Nam Y. Despite another bullpen fallout, Jordan Montgomery leads the Yankees past the White Sox 6-5

Image
Coming into Wednesday’s matchup, the Yankees own a 2-10 record over their last 12 games, losing seven straight during that span. In an attempt to change the recent losing woes, Jordan Montgomery toes the rubber for his 14th start of the season, and Jacoby Ellsbury returns to lineup for the first time in a month. Montgomery has become one of the more consistent starters for the Yanks, and is 3-1 with a 2.55 ERA over his last 6 games, that kind of form is exactly what the Yankees needed to start this seven game road trip and that’s exactly what they got. Montgomery went seven innings, scattering five hits while allowing only one run on the solo homer from Todd Frazier and despite another bullpen collapse the Yankees came up with the victory. Photo Credit: Paul Beatty | AP After escaping a quick jam in the first inning after giving up an error by his own hand, Montgomery got a nice 5-6-3 double play to end it, but to lead off the second Todd Frazier hit the second pitch deep into t...

Tanaka lit up again as Yanks West Coast losing streak continues in 5-2 loss to A's

Image
The Yankees entered Saturday’s contest looking to stop their season high losing streak at four games. Unfortunately for the Yankees, their West Coast struggles continued. Masahiro Tanaka had yet another disaster start, as he gave up five earned over four innings, while giving up three more home runs to tie Ricky Nolasco for the American league lead for homers given up by pitchers with 21 on the season. Not only did Tanaka struggle, but the Yankee offense struggled throughout the game managing only two runs on five hits leading to their fifth consecutive loss.   AP Photo/Tony Avelar
