"The Yankees are the best in the business," an interview with Yankees' 2019 sixth-round selection, Hayden Wesneski

With their sixth-round pick, 195th overall, in the 2019 draft, the New York Yankees selected right-handed starting pitcher, Hayden Wesneski, out of Sam Houston State. He was a 33rd round pick in the 2016 draft, but decided to go to college instead, where he thrived. Wesneski played three years as a Bearkat and threw at least 84 innings in each.  His best year in school was certainly this past season, where he posted a 3.32 ERA in 105.2 innings, including two complete games in 15 starts.  Standing at six-foot-three, Wesneski has a plus fastball, as well as an average slider and changeup in his arsenal, according to scouts.  In his three years at Sam Houston State, Wesneski compiled a 25-9 record in 51 appearances (44 starts).  To go along with his 288 IP, he had an ERA of 3.56 and struck out 224 while walking only 76 men.  We were fortunate enough to get to speak with Wesneski and get to know him a little bit better as a person and a player. Yankees MLB Draft 2019: Yankees select SS Josh Smith from LSU with the 67th pick

With the 67th pick, in the second round of the 2019 MLB draft, the New York Yankees have selected Josh Smith, a shortstop from LSU. This is the Yankees third and final pick of the first night of the draft. It is also the second shortstop the Yankees have selected. Smith was ranked as the 76th best prospect on MLB.com and hit .346 with nine homers in 2019. Smith, who is a left-handed batter, uses the whole field and makes good contact. Yankees MLB Draft 2019: Yankees select SS Anthony Volpe out of Delbarton School with the 30th pick in the first round

With the 30th pick in the 2019 MLB draft, the New York Yankees selected 18-year-old right-handed hitting shortstop Anthony Volpe. Volpe is ranked 63rd overall by MLB.com and sported a .388 BA with 10 XBH, 34 RBI, and 17 SB in 84 at-bats this season. Currently, Volpe is committed to play at Vanderbilt University. Yankees MLB Draft 2019: Yankees select left-handed pitcher TJ Sikkema from the University of Missouri with the 38th pick

With the 38 th pick of the 2019 MLB draft, the New York Yankees have selected TJ Sikkema. This is the pick New York acquired as part of the Sonny Gray trade. Sikkema was ranked #57 overall by MLB.com and went 7-4 in 17 appearances in 2019. He threw 88.2 innings, struck out 101 batters, and had a 1.32 ERA.
