In the leadup to an otherwise very boring trade deadline (so far), the speculation around Yankee land was where would the help come from. After seeing their top target Luis Castillo head to the Mariners for a steep price, the Yankees needed to shift. They have been in rumors for weeks about seeing help for their starting rotation as well as their bullpen. After weeks of nothing but rumors, the Yankees finally struck Tuesday, agreeing to a deal for Oakland A’s ace Frankie Montas. Also included in the deal is A’s reliever Lou Trivino. The return for Montas and Trivino is not insignificant, the Yankees sent back LHP JP Sears, INF Cooper Bowman, RHP Luis Medina and LHP Ken Waldichuk. Waldichuk would seem to be the headliner in the deal for the A’s, as he’s been a rising star and strikeout machine in the Yankees minor league system; Medina has flashed great potential and has decently high upside as well. Minutes before the Yankees took the field for their first spring training game, Brian Cashman struck a trade that, at this point, became inevitable.   The Yankees have pulled off their first big move of the 2021 Trade Deadline week, acquiring a much-needed lefty power bat in the form of Texas Rangers’ slugger Joey Gallo.   The trade also nets the Yankees RP  John King Joely Rodriguez .

  The New York Yankees have acquired IF Rougned Odor from the Texas Rangers for outfield prospects Antonio Cabello and Josh Stowers.   The news was first broken by ESPN’s Jeff Passan this afternoon.   Passan also notes that the Rangers will be assuming the majority of the money owed to Odor ($27 million) through the 2022 season plus a buyout on a 2023 option.  Joel Sherman of the New York Post was the first to report the prospects going to Texas in the deal.  Photo Credit: Smiley N.   The New York Yankees have seemingly filled out their starting rotation after acquiring Pirates right hander Jameson Taillon in a trade today.   News that the Yankees were first pursuing Taillon broke last night from MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand .   The Yankees, up against Major League Baseball’s luxury tax line with little room to spare, were looking to add to their starting rotation at a lower AAV than would be available on the free agent market.   Today, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Yankees were able to complete the deal for Taillon, sending minor league prospects Miguel Yajure, Roansy Contreras, Maikel Escotto and Canaan Smith to Pittsburgh to complete the deal.

The Yankees’ offseason is off to a great start. The club’s main focus all along was to add Gerrit Cole, finally giving New York the true, dominant Ace, they have needed.  In the days following, the team was able to retain veteran outfielder Brett Gardner.  Now, the Yankees could look to the trade market to round out their roster and get set for 2020. Last year we delved into various trade opportunities for the Yankees, and they ended up acquiring one of our proposed targets of J.A. Happ. In 2019, the first place Bombers will again look to the trade market for rotation help. The IL-Yankees of 2019 have lost Luis Severino, Domingo German, James Paxton, and C.C. Sabathia to injury at some point this year, and Severino is still on the IL. With the uncertainty of Severino's return to form and the heaps of question marks surrounding the rest of the rotation, it is obvious the Yankees could use another arm to the rotation.  AP

The Yankees have announced that they have officially acquired outfielder Andrew McCutchen and cash considerations from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Triple-A shortstop  Abiatal  Avelino and Single-A RHP Juan De Paula. The deal was first reported by Joel Sherman of the NY Post.  I hear if the trade is completed #yankees will be sending two prospects to the #sfgiants for McCutchen and that Abital Avelino is one of them. — Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) August 31, 2018 New York, in dire need of outfield help with  Aaron  Judge now shelved for over a month and Shane Robinson hitting under .150 in his place, needed to make a move like this to bolster its roster heading into the final month of the season.  After tonight’s brutal loss to the Tigers, it seems the American League East crown is out of reach, but the Yankees need to ensure they are as strong as possible heading into the AL Wild Card Game.
