It has taken a few weeks, but both the Yankees bats and this blog are finally showing some life. With the win a few nights ago, the curse of this blog picking the Yankees outright was lifted, and it continued the recent betting hot streak. Entering the day, the New York Yankees had 37 players occupying their 40-man roster with an 8:00 PM EST deadline looming in which 40-man rosters across baseball would freeze ahead of the December 5th Rule 5 Draft. The Yankees had a number of top prospects outside the 40-man roster who would otherwise be Rule 5 eligible unless added, but not enough spots to protect them all.  At the start of the day, the team was looking to protect INF Gleyber Torres, RHP Domingo Acevedo, INF Thairo Estrada, 1B/OF Billy McKinney & RHP Albert Abreu. The Yankees have one of the most heralded bullpens in the majors, routinely labeled one of the best in the MLB, and usually owning a top five bullpen ERA. However, if you took the blood pressure of Yankee fans when Aroldis Chapman or Dellin Betances stroll out to the mound in a tight game, they would most likely compare to a cardiac arrest patient, why is that? Yankees' bats silenced by Indians' pitching as they drop game one 2-1 The New York Yankees went into   Wednesday ’ s   double header with hopes to even up the series with the Cleveland Indians. Yankees pitcher Jaime Garcia went into the game looking for his first win in pinstripes, while Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer went for his 14th win of the season. It was the second game that Yankees Manager Joe Girardi gave Aaron Judge the night off (that is until the ninth, which will be addressed later), and it almost seemed his struggles had rubbed off on every other player in pinstripes. The rejuvenated Yankees have found themselves back in first place after five straight wins and a cold spell by the Red Sox, and planned on staying in first and expanding their lead as they faced off vs Tampa in a Saturday afternoon game at the Stadium. Lefty youngster Caleb Smith got the start for the Yanks but was pulled early, as this game wound up in the hands of the Yankees bullpen. This back and forth game ended with another Brett Gardner walk off, as a single up the middle with the bases loaded in the ninth gave the Yanks their sixth straight win by a score of 5-4. After a dramatic win last night against the Rays, the Yankees continue to roll and surge for first place in the American League East. Friday night in the Bronx, Masahiro Tanaka (7-9, 5.37 ERA) took the hill looking for some consistency in what has been an up and down season for the former ace. Tanaka was very sharp all night long, striking out five out of the first six batters he faced. The New York Yankees may have found their mojo after a two-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds this week and winning three out of four against the Seattle Mariners over the weekend. Now they look to continue that momentum and put distance between themselves and the Tampa Bay Rays who are just a game and a half behind them in the standings. The four-game series at Yankee Stadium could be the difference between first and third place. GAME ONE: (Thursday, July 27 | First Pitch: 7:05 PM ET) CC Sabathia (9-3, 3.44 ERA) vs. Chris Archer (7-6, 3.77 ERA) Both teams will come out guns blazing with the big guy CC Sabathia squaring up against Chris Archer. Sabathia has pitched well in his last two starts, allowing only one run and throwing at least five innings. He has started twice against the Rays, pitching a shutout early in the season and two runs in five innings back in May. The Yankees came into this game hoping to win their first series since June 11th in that monster series against the Orioles. Caleb Smith's first start was masterful through three innings, but a shaky fourth inning would end it early. The Yankees opened up a three-game set against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field after splitting a four game series against division rival Boston Red Sox. Now entering their second series of a long 11 game road trip, the Yanks were looking to get on track by winning their first series since June 11th back in the Bronx when they swept the Orioles.
