MLB Network to hire ex-Yankees' skipper Joe Girardi

The MLB Network is hiring former Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi as a Studio Analyst and could announce the hiring on Wednesday. Girardi is expected to make his debut on MLB Tonight on Wednesday at 6pm Eastern with Billy Ripken, Mike Lowell and Greg Amsinger.

As we all know, Girardi’s contract was not renewed by the Yankees despite the team’s success last season. The Yankees opted to go in another direction and hire the younger and more energetic Aaron Boone in hopes that he could relate more easily to the young players on their roster. At only 53-years-old and coming off a remarkable tenure as Yankee manager, Girardi should be a prime candidate for managerial openings in the future.

Although he was mentioned as a candidate for several managerial openings this offseason, nothing ultimately came of it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Girardi back on the bench sometime in the next few years. Until then however, you can tune in to MLB Network to see the former Yankee skipper.
