BBB Top Prospect Countdown #14: Tyler Wade
Wade, who was a 4th
round pick for the Yankees back in 2013, comes in at number 14 on our list.
Born on November 23, 1994 in Murrieta, California, Wade attended Murrieta
Valley High School in his hometown of Murrieta. Wade had committed to go to San
Diego State, but the Yankees were able to convince him to sign at the slot
value of $371,300.

Listed at 6’1” and 180
lbs, Wade is a lanky shortstop prospect who has good speed and can spray the
ball to all fields. In 127 games between High-A Tampa and AA Trenton, Wade
batted .262 with three home runs and 31 RBIs and 33 stolen bases, although
Wade’s average is down because of his brief 29 game stint in Trenton (.204 BA).
Although he has good hands at the shortstop position, his defense could improve
after committing 31 errors in 855 innings.
Projection
After a forgettable debut
in Trenton, the assumption is that Wade will start 2016 back in AA to improve
his game. With lots of shortstop prospects in the Yankees’ system, I’m not sure
where Wade fits into the Yankees future plans whether he develops to be a very
good shortstop or moves to a different position of need or is just simply used
as trade bait. Either way expect Wade to start the season in AA.
