Yankees Top Prospect Luis Severino to be Called Up
After
not acquiring a pitcher at the trade deadline, the Yankees made a move
internally as the team announced their top prospect Luis Severino would be
called up. Severino’s debut has been highly anticipated as he’s quickly risen
to the no. 16 prospect in the game according to MLB.com.
Severino
has mowed down hitters at every level in the minor leagues. After going 6-5
with a 2.46 ERA in 2014 across single-A and double-A, Severino has been even
better in 2015. Severino has gone 9-2 with an ERA of 2.45 in double-A Trenton
and triple-A Scranton combined.
Since
being called up to triple-A, Severino has gone 7-0 with a 1.91 ERA with the
RailRiders with 50 strikeouts and 17 walks in 61.1 innings pitched. His WHIP is
a miniscule 0.93 and he hasn’t allowed a home run in triple-A.
Severino
is just the first of a swarm of prospects that are making their way to the
Bronx this year. We’ve already seen the bullpen and outfield revolving door
that has allowed quite a few prospects to enjoy a brief stay in the Bronx.
Aaron Judge may be a September call-up as the team’s no. 2 overall prospect and
Rob Refsnyder will likely be called back up in the near future.
This
is an exciting time for the New York Yankees as they appear to be playing for
the future! Stay tuned for more call-ups!
