Yankees drop season finale 2-1 to the Blue Jays
In the Yankees final
regular season game, Jordan Montgomery capped off his solid rookie season pitching
one-run ball over 5.1 innings, but the Yankees lineup of most backup players did
little to nothing against the Blue Jays pitching as the team dropped the game
2-1.
The Yankees decided to rest a plethora of their projected postseason starters as they only have one day off before the ever-crucial Wild Card game and this showed due to their lack of offense. The Yankees failed to muster much against southpaw Brett Anderson who they absolutely crushed back in May when he pitched on the Cubs.
The Blue Jays started off
the scoring when Jose Bautista, who may be playing his last game ever as a Blue
Jay, hit a sacrifice fly to score Richard Urena. This was the lone run
surrendered by Montgomery who allowed only three baserunners all afternoon.
Adam Warren would come on to relieve Montgomery in the sixth inning marking his
first appearance since the first of September. Warren pitched an inning of
flawless baseball and struck out one.
The Yankees put up a fight
as Matt Holliday tied the game with a solo-blast in the bottom of the seventh
inning to tie the game at one run apiece.
Unfortunately the lead did
not last long as a drop third strike, walk, and sac-bunt led up to an RBI
groundout off the bat of Ryan Goins who barely got the ball to the pitcher
mound, but hit it softly enough to score Refsynder. The Yankees failed to
comeback for a second time and dropped the game 2-1.
The Yankees finished out their
season at 91-71 as they won their most games since 2012. In a year where they
were considered an inexperienced team and were a summer removed from a minor
rebuild, the Yankees exceeded all expectations and unlike 20 other teams will
not have today’s game be their last of
2017. The BBB will have full playoff coverage for our reader and we sincerely appreciate all of your support over the course of the regular season.
