Yankees one win away from World Series after 5-0 win on back of stellar Tanaka start

Fresh off a dramatic come from behind win last night in game four, the Yankees looked to take a 3-2 series lead on Wednesday evening. The Bombers sent Masahiro Tanaka to the hill, who was the massive hero the team needed tonight with Dallas Keuchel on the mound for Houston. With some serious offensive contributions from a large portion of the lineup, Tanaka was stellar as the Yankees shutout the Astros in a 5-0 win.

The Yankees got on the board early after a double by Starlin Castro in the second inning to start a two-out rally. Greg Bird followed him up with a sharp RBI single down the right field line and the Yankees took an early 1-0 on Keuchel. The Yankees then got their second run in the third inning on an Aaron Judge double down the line, which scored a motoring Brett Gardner from first base.

The Yankees put a crooked number on the board and knocked Keuchel out in the fifth to give them a commanding 4-0 lead. With two outs and two on, Sanchez singled to left field to score Chase Headley, and Didi Gregorius then drove home the fourth Yankee run on a single up the middle.

Tanaka went seven very strong innings holding the dangerous Houston offense in check as he scattered just three hits. Tanaka also only walked one batter, and he picked up eight strikeouts on the night.

The Yankees put another run on the board when Sanchez absolutely barreled up a Brad Peacock fastball to put the Yankees ahead 5-0. Joe Girardi then handed the ball to Tommy Kahnle who slammed the door throwing two shutout innings.

The Yankees will be back in action Friday night in Houston at 8:00 PM ET. It will be a game two rematch with Luis Severino squaring off against Justin Verlander. With the Yankees one win away from the World Series, they will look to their ace to finish this series off.
