Cleveland pitching cools off Bronx Bombers' bats in 5-2 Yankee loss

A night after the Yankee offense exploded for 13 runs, the Indians hit three solo home runs, and got a dominating performance by 2014 Cy Young winner Corey Kluber on their way to a 5-2 win on Saturday afternoon,  Kluber, who’s had a great year overall, pitched eight strong innings, giving up just two runs and five hits, his fifth straight quality start in what has been another strong season. BBB writers on the Yankees trade deadline moves

Image
Clint Frazier Photo Credit: Cheryl Pursell | Pinstriped Prospects Trade deadline sellers for the first time in over 25 years, the New York Yankees made an abundance of trades in an attempt for a rebuild of some sort. Although the Yankees will remain competitive, the moves made were clearly in the interest of the team in the long term as opposed to this year's team. First, they went out and dealt Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs for four players including Gleyber Torres and Adam Warren. The Yankees next move was trading Andrew Miller to the Indians for four prospects including Clint Frazier. Then, the team acquired Tyler Clippard from the Diamondbacks to fortify the bullpen for the time being. But the Yankees weren't done there. On the day of the trade deadline, the Yankees traded Carlos Beltran to the Rangers for three prospects, and they got rid of Ivan Nova for two players to be named later from the Pirates. Now, hear from our very own writer's with their thoughts on the ...

Image
After trading Andrew Miller to the Cleveland Indians for four prospects early Sunday morning, the Yankees took the field trying to salvage the last game of their series against the Tampa Bay Rays. As has been the case all series long, the Rays got the timely hits that the Yankees didn’t and completed the sweep with a 5-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. Series Preview: Yankees @ Astros

Image
After taking two of three from the NL West leading San Francisco Giants, and completing a 6-4 homestand coming out of the All-Star Break, the Yankees hit the road against the surging Houston Astros for a three game set starting on Monday night. Going into Monday’s action, the Yankees have six games remaining before the MLB non-waiver trade deadline and remain 4.5 games out of a wild card playoff spot. The front office pulled the trigger on an Aroldis Chapman trade today, but it still remains to be seen whether they commit to being buyers or sellers, and the impact that this week’s games will have on that decision. The Yankees took two of three from the Astros back in April to open the season. Houston comes into this series one of the hottest teams in baseball, having won 37 of their last 53 games, and sweeping the Los Angeles Angels over the weekend.

Yankees missed opportunities cause game to slip away in 12th inning in 2-1 loss to Giants

Image
In an extra inning marathon that no one seemed to want to win, Mac Williamson drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning, giving the San Francisco Giants a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon. The Yankees middle relief was once again the culprit - Anthony Swarzak took the loss following four dominant innings of scoreless relief from No Runs DMC. With the win the Giants snapped a six-game losing streak. The Yankees, meanwhile, are now 5-4 on a critical 10 game home stand coming out of the All-Star break. Photo Credit: Elsa | Getty Images

Series Preview: New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox (7/4 - 7/6)

Image
After salvaging the last game of their three game series with San Diego, the Yankees now travel to Chicago where they’ll kick off a three game set with the White Sox on Monday. The Yankees are in the midst of a 10 game road trip heading into the All-Star Break, with each series against a tougher opponent than the last. Characteristic of their inconsistent performance all season, the Yankees dropped two of three on the easiest leg of the trip, but don’t be surprised if they have a strong week ahead. After opening the season as one of baseball’s early surprises at 23-10, the White Sox have come back to earth and are now where many thought they would be to start the season. In mid-May, the Yankees took two of three from Chicago at Yankee Stadium.

Pineda pitches well, Yankees rally in eighth to defeat Twins 2-1

Image
For the second day in a row, the Yankees were once again helped by poor Minnesota defense. With runners on first and third and one out in the bottom of the eighth, Eduardo Escobar booted his second double-play ball of the game. Aaron Hicks scored the go-ahead run and the Yankees won their second straight game over the Twins, 2-1. Starlin Castro was credited with the go-ahead RBI. Photo Credit: AP/Frank Franklin II Michael Pineda started and pitched well, giving up just one run and two hits while striking out eight over six innings. His only mistake of the afternoon was a leadoff home run to Brian Dozier to lead off the second inning. Following Dozier’s 9th home run of the year, Pineda retired 15 of the last 17 batters he faced. This was Pineda’s third quality start over his last four outings. After a rough April and May, Pineda has turned it around in June, giving up just 10 ER in 30 innings, while striking out 37 and walking just 5. His next scheduled start will be agains...

Ellsbury, Beltran lead Yankees back from four-run deficit to win 7-6

Image
The Yankees “Jekyll and Hyde” offense was in true form against the Twins on Saturday, but they woke up just in time to rally from a 4-0 deficit to win 7-6. In the ninth, with the game tied at four and none out, the Yankees loaded the bases after two walks and a bunt single. After Starlin Castro struck out, Jacoby Ellsbury delivered a tiebreaking, 2-RBI single, giving the Yankees a 6-4 lead. Brett Gardner extended the lead to 7-4 with a sacrifice fly to center, and the Yankees won their third straight game against the Twins on Saturday afternoon. Picture Credit: Associated Press/Jim Mone
