  The Yankees finally wrapped up their home series against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Monday night, evening the season series at two games apiece with a 2-1 victory.   The Yankees continued to struggle at the plate on Monday night, but a two-run first inning home run off the bat of Joey Gallo was all the offense required in this one.

Last year Cashman acquired Sonny Gray, Jaime Garcia, David Robertson, Tommy Khanle, and Todd Frazier before the July 31st deadline, which helped drive the Bombers to game seven of the ALCS, but they gave up some of their better prospect in the process. The team has its sights set on a championship, so GM Brian Cashman will undoubtedly upgrade the starting pitching at the deadline, but who and for what? LA Times

The Yankees have a top-three farm system in all of baseball even with the graduation of a handful of players due to their contributions  at the MLB level. The strength of their farm system at the moment is, by far, pitching. According to MLB.com’s rankings, 23 of the Yankees top 30 prospects are pitchers. With an influx of young offensive players becoming major leaguers in the Bronx in recent seasons, such as, Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge, Clint Frazier, Greg Bird, Miguel Andujar, Tyler Austin, Tyler Wade, and Gleyber Torres, the Yankees’ front office has made it a point to try to build up their pitching depth and have successfully done so. The top 100 prospect rankings for 2018 have been released, and, not surprisingly, the Baby Bombers are well represented. Here we will take a look at these players, how they are playing, and where you may see them in the near future. MLB.com

The Yankees pitching staff is debatably one of the best in the game, with names like Severino, Gray, Tanaka and Sabathia headlining the starting five. The Yankees have a core of talent that will compete every game until the last out is made. With names like Adams, Sheffield and Abreu, their farm system is also producing names that have shown success and who are projected to compete at the major league level. Over the last few weeks, Gerrit Cole and the Pirates have been rumored to be involved in a possible trade with the Yankees. Adding Cole to the staff will make the rotation a whole lot better and the Yankees would have a truly elite rotation.   Photo Credit: Getty Images

Entering the day, the New York Yankees had 37 players occupying their 40-man roster with an 8:00 PM EST deadline looming in which 40-man rosters across baseball would freeze ahead of the December 5th Rule 5 Draft. The Yankees had a number of top prospects outside the 40-man roster who would otherwise be Rule 5 eligible unless added, but not enough spots to protect them all.  At the start of the day, the team was looking to protect INF Gleyber Torres, RHP Domingo Acevedo, INF Thairo Estrada, 1B/OF Billy McKinney & RHP Albert Abreu. The Yankees enter the 2017-18 offseason with one of, if not the best farm system in Major League Baseball. By now you know the big names. There's MLB Pipeline’s #1 overall prospect Gleyber Torres, there's top arms Chance Adams and Justus Sheffield, there's top outfield prospects Clint Frazier and Estevan Florial, and of course there's Miguel Andújar, a 3B/DH prospect who possesses possibly the best bat in the organization. With the July Trade Deadline on the horizon, teams are starting to realize where they stand amongst the rest of the teams in Major League Baseball. The Yankees were not projected to be in the thick of things once the season hit the halfway mark, but here they are tied for first place with the Boston Red Sox. This by default labels the Yankees as “buyers” like most teams are with a legitimate shot at a postseason berth. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Yankees could potentially make a huge splash for the Oakland Atheltics’ ace, Sonny Gray. Passan noted, however, that the “cratering of their starting pitching” was also to blame for the Yankees losing their comfortable first-place lead. In their last 60 innings pitched before Montgomery’s magnificent start against the White Sox on Monday, the Yankees’ starting pitching had allowed 13 home runs ...

1.   Gleyber Torres SS   – Torres returned from injury since our last update and didn’t miss a step. In the past two weeks he has raised his average about 10 points and mashed four doubles. He’s also added a home run and six RBIs since we last saw him. Welcome back to our bi-week prospect update. This week’s biggest news is the removal of Aaron Judge from our list. He is officially no longer considered a prospect and will not be featured here. As sad as I am to see Judge go, that means we have room for a new prospect and also that I get to watch him on cable TV hitting moon balls every other day. Enjoy! The Yankees parted ways with quite a few impactful players during their sell off at the trade deadline and in free agency in an attempt to decrease their payroll and get younger as they roll into the youth movement. Obviously, Brian Cashman since reacquired the traded Aroldis Chapman, but I will be providing you all with an update on the former Yankees who the team has seen depart over the last season.   Photo Via Outside Pitch

Jordan Montgomery will be the fifth starter in the Yankees rotation, making his Major League debut on Wednesday in the Bronx. Standing at 6’6,” the left hander has a pretty nice arsenal of pitches for such a young guy.   He has a four-seamer, curveball, cutter, changeup, and a sinker.   Before Spring Training, he was considered a long shot to make it to the big leagues out of camp.   But after his impressive spring, he made Joe Girardi seriously consider bringing him up. He pitched 19.2 innings and allowed seven earned runs and struck out 17. He made six spring appearances including two starts pitching to a 3.20 ERA.   Last season Montgomery was in both the Double-A and Triple-A where he had a 2.19 ERA and struck out about 23% of the batters he faced.   With his dominance in the minor leagues, Montgomery's development was kickstarted.  Photo Credit: Chris O'Meara | AP

At just 21-years young, Albert Abreu has a lot of baseball ahead of him. Abreu was one of the primary pieces the Yankees acquired from the Astros in the Brian McCann deal, and for good reason.
