BREAKING: Yankees sign RHP Adam Ottavino

The Yankees have reached an agreement with right-handed free-agent reliever Adam Ottavino, as first reported by Robert Murray of The Athletic and Jeff Passan of ESPN. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports the deal is expected to be for three-years, $27 million. Ottavino becomes the third former Rockie to sign with the Yanks in the past few weeks, joining DJ LeMahieu and Troy Tulowitzki.

Ottavino adds to the already stacked Yankees bullpen. He broke out in 2018 with the Rockies, pitching to a 2.43 ERA with an incredible 13.0 K/9. Ottavino held opposing hitters to an astounding .158 in 77.2 IP. The 33-year-old has a loaded repertoire that includes an above-average fastball and cutter to go along with a wipeout slider. The only concern about Ottavino is his control, as he pitched to a 4.2 BB/9 last season.

After re-signing Zach Britton, the Yanks’ addition of Ottavino is an upgrade over David Robertson, whom signed with the Phillies. The ‘pen should once again be one of the best in baseball in 2019.
