Yankees bring back CC Sabathia on a one year deal
As first reported by Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees agreed to terms with veteran LHP CC Sabathia on a one-year, $8 million contract. The contract includes no incentives. 2019 will be Sabathia’s 19th season in the big leagues, and his 11th in pinstripes. He is coming off a campaign where he finished with a 9-7 record to go with a 3.65 ERA, his lowest since 2012.
During a Facebook Live interview with Brandon Steiner last week, Sabathia stated that the 2019 season would be his last. Although other teams had interest in the lefty, there was never a desire to test the free agent waters. CC has repeatedly vocalized his desire to retire with the Yankees.
In addition to competing for his second World Series ring, Sabathia has a chance to notch two big personal achievements in what should ultimately be a Hall of Fame career. He is 4 wins away from reaching 250 victories, and 14 strikeouts away from becoming only the 17th pitcher ever to sit down 3,000 batters.

I've seen CC Sabathia pitch a couple dozen times at least. Never once did I feel that was not money well spent. He's still as entertaining as ever and he can keep a team in a game. Lots of respect to a solid veteran I think this is a good signing for the Yankees and CC can slot right in in the number 5 spot in the rotation - which is precisely where a guy at his stage of his career probably belongs.
ReplyDeleteWhere are Yankee fans don't want to see him is as the number three starter on next year's team.
I think that's where most people opposed to re-signing him were kind of thinking he'd be.
I'm not sure if people realize the Yankees would slide him in in the Five Spot, where he'd be an asset.
