BBB 2017 Top Prospect Countdown #10: Miguel Andujar

After having another strong season in 2016, Miguel Andujar was added to the 40 man roster this past winter to protect him from the Rule 5 draft and for good reason too. With Chase Headley manning third base at the moment we might have to wait a while to see Andujar in the Majors, but at this rate it will be sooner rather than later.

Breakdown

Standing at 6'0" and 175 pounds, the right handed third baseman has some pop, but has the ability to hit the ball to all fields. His plate discipline has also gotten a lot better as he's been able to improve his pitch recognition at the plate. Andujar also plays really good defense as he has a good arm and quick feet to help him man third base. Andujar has the potential to hit for a high average and add some pop as well.

In 2016 Andujar split time between Single A Tampa and Double A Trenton and tore up Single A when he batted .283 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs in 58 games. Andujar continued to be solid with Trenton as he batted .266 with two home runs and 42 RBIs in 72 games. In five seasons in the minor leagues, Andujar has a career .263 average with 35 home runs, 254 RBIs and 25 stolen bases across 1791 at bats in 471 games. After the 2016 season Andujar was sent to the Arizona Fall League for more work and had a strong showing as he batted .284 with no home runs and five RBIs in 19 games. Andujar also slugged two doubles and two triples in the process

Projection

To start the 2017 season, Andujar is most likely to head back to Trenton, but after just turning 22 years old he is pretty advanced for his age. Andujar is more than likely going to get promoted to Triple A at some point this summer and since he is already on the 40 man roster, it is not far fetched to think that we can see him in the show come September. The best case scenario for Andujar is that he takes over for Chase Headley as the starting third baseman at some point in the future, but only time will tell.
