Yankees' top ten pitching prospect June update

The Yankees have a top-three farm system in all of baseball even with the graduation of a handful of players due to their contributions at the MLB level. The strength of their farm system at the moment is, by far, pitching. According to MLB.com’s rankings, 22 of the Yankees top 30 prospects are pitchers. With an influx of young offensive players becoming major leaguers in the Bronx in recent seasons, such as, Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge, Clint Frazier, Greg Bird, Miguel Andujar, Tyler Austin, Tyler Wade, and Gleyber Torres, the Yankees’ front office has made it a point to try to build up their pitching depth and have successfully done so. Yankees prospect Thairo Estrada hits for cycle in AA Trenton's 9-6 win

History was made last night during the Trenton Thunder’s 9-6 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, as Yankees No. 18 prospect Thairo Estrada hit for the cycle. The cycle was the third in Trenton’s history, and first in their postseason history, and helped the Yankees’ AA affiliate tie the postseason series against Binghamton 1-1. Domingo Acevedo and Estevan Florial named to the Futures Game World roster

While the Major League All-Star rosters have yet to be announced, Major League Baseball released the rosters for the annual Futures Game on Thursday. With Gleyber Torres out, Tyler Wade could soon be the answer for the Yankees at third base

The Yankees have surprised many with their 40-32 start that has them tied for first place in the AL East despite having such glaring holes at first and third base. The Yankees just DFA'd Chris Carter late Friday night turning to youngster Tyler Austin at first base, leaving an open spot on the 40-man roster. And Yankees GM Brian Cashman may not be finished committing to the youth movement, as Tyler Wade has forced his name into the equation for the New York Yankees. Yankees promote third baseman Miguel Andújar to AAA to replace injured Torres

Today is a dark day in Yankeeland as top prospect Gleyber Torres is set to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn UCL in his left (non-throwing) elbow - an injury that effectively ends his 2017 and potentially impacts next season as well. The RailRiders are calling up Miguel Andujar from Double-A. Gleyber Torres to undergo Tommy John Surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2017 season

Photo Credit: Kim Klement | USA TODAY Sports New York Yankees top prospect Gleyber Torres seemed to be on an unstoppable ride to the big leagues but that now has been cut short with news that the mega prospect will require Tommy John surgery. The injury occurred over the weekend when Torres slid, head-first, into home plate which you can see here . He exited the game with appeared to be an elbow injury which was later confirmed by the doctors. He tore the ulner collateral ligament in his non-throwing arm, effectively ending his 2017 season before he could reach the zenith. Torres was batting .309 for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders over the course of 23 games. He also had two home runs and 16 RBI. Before the call-up to Triple A, the 20-year old played 32 games with the Trenton Thunder in Double A ball, hitting .273 with five home runs and 18 RBI. Entering this season, Gleyber Torres was on the mind of nearly every Yankee fan, but he seemed to be about a year to a year and a half away from making a splash. All of a sudden, things have changed, and it appears as though the Yankees are prepared to call up the top prospect as soon as this season, according to a report by Randy Miller of NJ.com . Anytime someone thinks of a Yankees middle infield prospect, their focus will automatically go to Gleyber Torres. No one else really is considered, due to the fact that Gleyber is widely considered to be a future superstar, no matter where his position is. Yankees reportedly call up top prospect Gleyber Torres to Triple-A

On a fast-track to the big leagues, Yankees top prospect Gleyber Torres has just had his track expedited as Pinstriped Prospects writer Antonio Mendes reports that he is being called up to Triple-A. Torres was slashing .273/.367/.496 with five home runs, 18 RBIs, and 10 doubles in 32 games with the Double-A Trenton Thunder prior to his reported call up, which the club has not yet confirmed.
