Photo credit: Lineups.com After a weekend series in Cleveland leaves the Yankees record at 9-12, they will be traveling to Baltimore for a four-game series. Immediately following that, the bombers head back home to take on the Tigers in a three-game set.   The Yankees took three out of four in a much-needed winning series against the Indians, their first since their second series of the season the last time they saw the Orioles.   The bats have looked better, the pitching is more consistent, and it looks as if the Yankees may finally be turning a corner from their historically bad start. Following an injury-riddled season in 2019 where fans saw just one outing from 6’8” right-hander Dellin Betances, Yankees nation caught a case of the Christmas blues when word broke that he had signed a one-year deal that would send him across the East River to play in Queens. As a result of suffering a bone spur injury behind his right shoulder before Opening Day, along with tearing his Achilles tendon in his return on September 15, Betances missed virtually the entire season. With the Yankees' season nearly a month over, the dust has finally settled and the offseason is in full swing. The Yankees had strong aspirations for the third consecutive year and came up short of their goal for the third straight year. With this being said, there is a lot to discuss and speculate, and here are a handful of our writers' takes on what happened in 2019 and what may go down in the 2019-2020 offseason as the Yankees strive to finally get back to the Fall Classic for the first time since 2009.  Photo Credit: NY Post

Just like that, the 2019 New York Yankees regular season has come to an end. The Bombers finished with a 103-59 regular-season record, being one of four teams to end the season with more than 100 wins for the first time in MLB history. Calling this season a rollercoaster would be an understatement. It seemed like another name was hitting the IL at every corner that was turned. The Yankees lead the league in both the number of different players that spent time on the injured list (30) and lead by almost 600 in total days spent on the injured list with 2,614. But, ironically, the Yanks head into the postseason looking about as healthy as they have throughout the duration of the season with just a couple names to keep an eye on. Photo Credit: Noah K. Throughout an injury-plagued season for the Yankees, the team has seen the likes of Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, and Luis Severino on the shelf for extended periods of time. Stanton remains out heading into September and Severino has yet to make an appearance this season. But, one setback that may be even more significant than the   others is that of Luke Voit. Don’t get me wrong, the Bombers put together a solid platoon led by DJ LeMahieu, who continues to play Gold Glove defense at three of the infield spots and that bat is just a cherry on top. With the All-Star break in the rear view, the Yankees sit at a 57-31 record and hold a commanding 6.5 game lead over Tampa Bay in the AL East heading into the second half. Impressive play from the likes of DJ LeMahieu, Gleyber Torres, and a much-needed bounce back year from Gary Sanchez have helped them get there, but who will keep it going? As everyone knows, the Yankees have dealt with a handful of injuries that kept their top-tier players sidelined for a large portion of the season so far, and others who have struggled here and there. The New York Yankees started their road trip in the south side of Chicago Thursday night against the White Sox. The Yankees saw a familiar face on the mound in a struggling Iván Nova, who started out his big-league career with the team and played with them until 2016 when he was traded to Pittsburgh. Heading into this start, Nova was sporting a 6.28 ERA with a 1.62 WHIP, averaging around two runners on base per inning. Lefty J.A. Happ took the mound for the Yanks who has been pitching better as of late, but was still approaching the start with a 4.48 ERA.   Photo Credit: AP

With the 30th pick in the 2019 MLB draft, the New York Yankees selected 18-year-old right-handed hitting shortstop Anthony Volpe. Volpe is ranked 63rd overall by MLB.com and sported a .388 BA with 10 XBH, 34 RBI, and 17 SB in 84 at-bats this season. Currently, Volpe is committed to play at Vanderbilt University.
