LeMahieu, Urshela helping carry underdog Bombers

As June begins, if there is one thing to be said about the 2019 New York Yankees, it is that no matter how much adversity or injuries ravage this team, they are a group who not only accept whatever hardships come their way, but they will continue to thrive. Despite numerous key players spending a significant amount of time on the injured list, this continues to be a team that is not only fun to watch, but one that anybody should be afraid to play, regardless of the lack of superstars on the field. Gleyber Torres powers his way to Player of the Week award

Image
Gleyber Torres, the Yankees 21-year-old phenom, has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week of May 21-27. It is the first award won by the young second baseman, who has been in the big leagues for just five weeks. (Adam Hunger/USA Today) During the six-game span, Torres posted a slash line of .368/.429/1.158 to go along with five homers, five runs scored, and nine RBIs. On Friday night, he hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning which would prove to be the difference in the game. It was his fifth round-tripper in four games, and it carried historical significance. The blast made Gleyber the youngest player in American League history to homer in four consecutive games. He is also the fourth youngest player since 1900 to accomplish the feat, older than only Miguel Cabrera, Andruw Jones, and Albert Pujols. This is the second time this season a Yankee has won Player of the Week honors. The first player to win the award was Didi Gregorius during th...

BBB weighs in: Top storylines for the 2018 season

Image
This is it, everyone! Opening Day is officially a single day away.  The long Winter offseason has finally come and gone and in just 24 short hours, Yankees baseball will be back on our TVs nightly.  In preparation of the start of the season, I asked a few of our writers to weigh in on the top storylines heading into the 2018 Season. The question? Simple: 'What are you most excited about?'  Photo via New York Yankees Twitter Andrew Natalizio   Follow @anatalizio0523 In 2017 NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton and 2017 AL ROY Aaron Judge, the Yankees have a power duo the likes we haven't seen since Maris and Mantle. While expecting both sluggers to repeat their 2017 performances might be a bit far-fetched, the Yankees should be atop most offensive statistics this season. Behind Judge and  Stanton  you have Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius, both coming off career years, and hopefully if/when healthy, Greg Bird. In the interim, I’m excited to see what ...

MLB Trade Rumors: Jacoby Ellsbury "might consider" waving no-trade clause

Image
One of the biggest storylines for the Yankees braintrust this offseason has been what to do with Jacoby Ellsbury and his unwillingness to waive his no-trade clause. He has repeatedly voiced his desire to stay in New York, and believes he can be the starting center fielder next season. According to a new report, however, the 33-year-old could possibly change his mind.   Photo Credit: Getty Images
