A-Rod coming to the booth for ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball
Alex Rodriguez has experienced
quite the 180 in terms of his public image and perception ever since he retired
from the sport of baseball. From presenting himself as a solid analyst on FOX
during the postseason, to his love involvement with fellow celebrity J-Lo, A-Rod has been on a
tear, and now it appears as if he has just landed yet another sweet deal.
According to Michael McCarthy of Sporting
News, ESPN is set to announce Rodriguez as the newest member of their Sunday
Night Baseball broadcast team along with up and coming play-by-play guy Matt
Vasgersian from Fox and MLB Network, and returning analyst Jessica Mendoza. Rodriguez
will also remain with Fox Sports as an in-studio analyst during the postseason
when ESPN does not have the television rights for games.
It will be interesting to see how Rodriguez does as an analyst for a full season, as he made his broadcasting debut in the booth this past May for Fox Sports 1 in a Royals vs Yankees game. Rodriguez had did a fine job covering the postseason for FOX and had tremendous chemistry with David Ortiz while in studio for FOX during last year’s postseason; will he be able to create similar chemistry with Vasgersian and Mendoza? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: A-Rod will be calling quite a few Yankee games in 2018.

This deal was made
possible in part due to the fact that ESPN’s parent company Disney purchased
most of 21st Century Fox assets, including many regional sporting
networks such as the YES Network. Yet, apparently Rodriguez did not view that
as a factor in him taking this opportunity and now has a chance to cement
himself as one of the voices of baseball.
