The Time Is Now For the Yankees
Coming
off a sweep of the Mariners in the Emerald City the Yankees find themselves on
top of the AL East standings. While there isn't a cause for concern the time is
now for the Bronx Bombers to step on the gas pedal and separate themselves from
their competition. The rotation got a huge boost yesterday as Masahiro Tanaka
returned from the DL and was dazzling. The Yankees still remain without their
top overall player in Jacoby Ellsbury. Once he returns the offense should see
more consistency.
The
Orioles seem to be content just hanging in the middle of the pack and as good
as Toronto's offense is they aren't a serious contender. The Yankees need to
watch out for rivals Boston and Tampa Bay. As horrific as the Red Sox have been
they are bound to turn things around and go on a run. They also have the
prospects and the money to make a division changing type of trade. The Rays are
playing hard under new manager Kevin Cash and just took three of four from the
Yanks a few weeks ago.
The
Yankees are incredibly frustrating to watch as they swept a very good Royals
ball club before dropping three out of four to the basement dwelling Athletics.
And as mentioned earlier they just swept former star Robinson Cano and his Mariners
out of their own ballpark.
The
Yankees have the luxury of the AL East being downright terrible right now but
can they count on that to continue? That's asking a lot. The time is now for
this team to go on a run and win nine of ten or twelve of fifteen to give
themselves some breathing room. Maybe that involves Brian Cashman making a big
move. Maybe it's Ellsbury coming back or Stephen Drew being released and the
promotion of Rob Refsnyder. Regardless one thing is for certain if the Yankees
want to prove pinstripe power reigns supreme the time is now.
