Yankees Spring Training Invitations

By: Chad Raines

Our beloved New York Yankees announced their non-40-man roster Spring Training invites earlier today, Feb. 5. In addition to the members of the 40-man roster (who automatically get a bid), the Yankees invited 26 other aspiring big leaguers bringing the number of players attending Yankees Spring Training to 66.

Below, I have listed each and every player who will be attending camp in 2015, because I love you. Pitchers and catchers will report on Feb. 20, with the first full-squad workout coming on Feb. 26. We’ll start with the pitchers currently on the 40-man where I have listed their name, their throwing arm, and their projected role.

Those were the givens for attending Spring Training. Here is where it gets interesting – the non-40-man invitees. Headlining the pitchers is the Yankees number 1 prospect Luis Severino. Again, I have included their name, their throwing arm, and their projected role. Below is the full list.

Some of the guys who were “snubbed” of a Spring Training invite include Ian Clarkin, Austin DeCarr, Matt Tracy, Jaron Long, Mark Montgomery and Johnny Barbato. Ty Hensley was also not invited to Spring Training this year, and we still wish him the best in his recovery from his injuries received when he was assaulted. Now let’s take a look at the non-40-man position player invitees. Again, I have listed their name, batting side and throwing arm (B/T) and the positions they play, in order of how often they play them. Headlining this group of course, MLB.com top 100 prospect, Aaron Judge.

The “snubs” for the position players include Eric Jagielo, Gosuke Katoh, and Dante Bichette Jr. Luis Torrens, Jorge Mateo and Miguel Andujar were also left off but they’re still very young and will likely be invited in the upcoming seasons.

These lists make 15 added position players and 11 added pitchers bringing the ST roster to 66 total players. Again, Spring Training begins in just 15 days, with pitchers and catchers reporting in 15 days, and the rest of the squad reporting in 21 days. The Yankees first spring game is scheduled at the Phillies spring facility March 3. Prepare yourselves, Yankees baseball is just around the corner.
