By: Eliot Podgorsky Non-roster invitees serve a variety of roles in spring training such as pitching batting practice and filling out split squad games. Non-roster invitees are often a mix of veteran’s looking for another shot, fringe players who have moved on to another organization and prospects who are being rewarded with a taste of the big leagues.  The Yankees current crop is no different. The Yankees have 27 invitees, grouped into 12 pitchers, five catchers, seven infielders and three outfielders.   Notable top prospects include Jacob Lindgren, Luis Servino, Greg Bird, Rob Refsnyder and Aaron Judge.  Missing from the top prospect group and non-roster invitees in general is Eric Jagielo. With seven infield non-roster invitees plus the eight infielders on the current 40-man roster it could have simply been that there were not enough innings to go around.

The 2009 Playoff run finishing with a World Series win is one of the greatest postseasons in recent years. Getting suspended a full year for steroids, and lying about it was definitely a low point. But Alex Rodriguez getting suspended last year could be the best thing that has happened to him and could really help him moving forward in his career.

I am going to state projections for who I believe will be they Yankees best player, let-down player, and Alex Rodriguez. Let’s get right to it.

By: Jesse Garcia It was no secret that the New York Yankees got mediocre offensive production from some of their “Big Bats” in 2014 such as: Brian McCann, Mark Teixeria, and Carlos Beltran. One player that separated himself from those lame ducks was Jacoby Ellsbury. Ellsbury, in his first season of a seven year deal worth $153 million, hit .271 with 16 homers and drove in 70 runs. 

By: Chad Raines Our beloved New York Yankees announced their non-40-man roster Spring Training invites earlier today, Feb. 5. In addition to the members of the 40-man roster (who automatically get a bid), the Yankees invited 26 other aspiring big leaguers bringing the number of players attending Yankees Spring Training to 66. Below, I have listed each and every player who will be attending camp in 2015, because I love you. Pitchers and catchers will report on Feb. 20, with the first full-squad workout coming on Feb. 26. We’ll start with the pitchers currently on the 40-man where I have listed their name, their throwing arm, and their projected role.

By: Chad Raines Slade Heathcott has been a big name in the Yankees farm system ever since being drafted in the first round by the team in the 2009 Amateur Draft. It was dream come true for Heathcott as it came with signing bonus of 2.2 million dollars, and high expectations for the young 18 year old. Being a left-handed thrower and hitter, Heathcott has drawn comparisons to one familiar Yankee, Brett Gardner. Heathcott has shown flashes of possessing all five tools on the field. His only problem: injuries. Heathcott’s injuries from his shoulder, to his knee have tampered with his path to Pinstripes, as he has only played more than 100 games once in his career (103) which was in 2013.  

By: Matt Cote For the past decade Derek Jeter was the face of the New York Yankees, no ifs ands or buts about it. The captain was on every poster, program and T-shirt in the five boroughs. Seeing a #2 shirt, shirsey (a jersey shirt) or jersey was about as common in New York as seeing a famous Ray’s pizza. Jeter is gone, retired his face and legacy a memory of legends past. New York needs a new face, a new leader. Someone to sell to the masses, a face to go on every young Yankee fans walls at home. According to MLB Network and their face of the franchise contest the face of the Yankees is (drumroll please)….Brett Gardner. *crickets* With all possible respect thrown Gardner’s way he is not, nor will he ever be the face of the Yankees.
