Image
After losing in a disappointing series opener to the Baltimore Orioles last night, the Yankees took on game two of the three game series in Camden Yards this afternoon. Masahiro Tanaka took to the mound to pitch for the first time since his Opening Day letdown against the Rays, facing off against Kevin Gausman. While Matt Holliday picked up his 2,000th career hit, the storylines of this game included Gary Sanchez leaving this game with an injury, and the Yankees blowing another late lead in a 5-4 loss. Holliday, Sanchez homer but Yankees blow four-run lead in 6-5 loss to Orioles

The Yankees continued their opening road trip with the first game of a three game series against the Baltimore Orioles tonight. Luis Severino made his first start of the season, and pitched well for the most part. He settled down after a rough first inning, striking out six in total, but a three-run homer by Manny Machado in the fifth essentially ended his night. However, the Yankees offense showed some life behind two-run homers from Matt Holliday and Gary Sanchez. Unfortunately, a key error from Chase Headley and two-run home run from Seth Smith propelled the Orioles to a 6-5 victory. Photo Credit: Mitch Stringer | USA TODAY Sports

Opening series impressions & notes

Ouch. After an exciting spring training dominated by their young players, the Yankees stumbled out of the gate, dropping their first series to the Rays down in Tampa. With that series finished and with the team on their way to Baltimore for a weekend showdown with the Orioles here are some thoughts and notes. Photo Credit: Chris O'Meara/AP Photo

Series Preview: New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles (4/7-4/9)

The Yankees head to Yankee Stadium South (Camden Yards) for the second series of the year with the Baltimore Orioles. While the Yankees are coming off a somewhat disappointing series loss to Tampa Bay, Baltimore is 2-0 after sweeping a short series from the Blue Jays. Baltimore was able to hold the Toronto offense to just three runs over two games and saw a walk of home run from Mark Trumbo in the 11th to win the first game of the series.

Sluggish Yankees fall 4-1 to Rays, lose series

Coming off an impressive 5-0 win on Tuesday night, the Bombers were looking to start a winning streak at the expense of Alex Cobb and the Rays. For the second time in three games, however, a combination of suspect starting pitching and lackluster offense doomed the Yankees, as they dropped their opening series with a 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay.   Photo Credit: Brian Blanco | Getty Images

Three keys to success for the 2017 Yankees

Image
After finishing 84-78 in 2016, and fourth in the AL East, the new look Yankees will look to return to being perennial contenders. With loads of talent waiting in the minors and proven players on the major league squad, don’t be surprised if the Yankees sneak into the playoffs, like they did in 2015. If they want another playoff berth though, here are three keys to earning it.

Torreyes homers, Sabathia shuts down Rays in Yankees first win of the season

Coming off a disappointing 7-3 Opening Day loss, the Yankees took on the Rays in game two of a three game set on Tuesday night. The team sent CC Sabathia to the hill to square off against Jake Odorizzi from the Rays. Ronald Torreyes hit the team's first homer of the season, and Sabathia pitched very well across five innings getting his and the team's first victory of the season in a 5-0 win. Tanaka struggles as Yankees drop sixth consecutive Opening Day game

The day baseball fans have been waiting for since Anthony Rizzo gloved Kris Bryant’s throw in the World Series to end the Cubs’ historic championship drought, Opening Day is among us. The Yankees were allotted the first game of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays and were looking to illustrate to the baseball world that this team, with the youngest opening day lineup in over 25 years, was looking to contend and be competitive now rather than in the next year or two. Especially with the World Baseball Classic providing postseason-like baseball, baseball fans became anxious for games to start that actually counted. Yankees fans wish this game did not count as the Rays slugged seven runs off of their ace pitcher to secure the victory. Photo Credit: Brian Blanco | Getty Images

2017 Bold Predictions: The New York Yankees edition

Image
As we prepare for yet another season of Yankees baseball, I thought it would be pertinent to write my second annual bold predictions piece. First and foremost, it's hard to not look forward to the start of the 2017 season. Unlike in recent years, the Yankees are not an aging team comprised primarily of washed up veterans being paid money they are no longer earning. Granted, the Bombers do still have a few of those players left on the roster, but the story heading into 2017 is the youth movement. Bearing in mind the excitement felt by the fan base and my own personal feelings, I've compiled a list of 10 bold predictions for the 2017 team. Some may seem a bit more outlandish than others, but all are certainly possible. I'd like to preface the substantive portion of my piece by stating that I do not truly believe all of my predictions will come to fruition. I have a much dimmer outlook for the 2017 New York Yankees. While the Baby Bombers will indeed be exciting to watch, th...
