CC records his 3000th career strikeout! pic.twitter.com/YuFfCS9enN — Bronx Bomber Ball (@BronxBomberBall) May 1, 2019 Carsten Charles Sabathia became just the 17 th  pitcher, and third lefty, in MLB history to record 3,000 career strikeouts in the Yankees' 3-1 defeat to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday evening.  The Big Man accomplished the feat in the second inning after striking out David Peralta, Christian Walker, and finally John Ryan Murphy for strikeout #3,000.  Sabathia finished with a final line of 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs, and striking out five.  He was outdueled by Zack Greinke though, who dominated the Yankees lineup for 7.2 innings and allowed only one run.    Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images

There has long been speculation throughout the offseason that the Yankees will trade one of, if not both of Brett Gardner and Chase Headley. I’m an irrationally big Gardner fan, so I would prefer they keep him, but I would have no problem with a Chase Headley trade to shed payroll. However, in order to trade him, the Yankees need a trade partner. However, there are many quality third basemen out there that are better than Headley, which could make a trade difficult.
