BREAKING: Yankees trade Luke Voit to San Diego; acquire prospect Lange

Image
Minutes before the Yankees took the field for their first spring training game, Brian Cashman struck a trade that, at this point, became inevitable. Luke Voit is headed to the San Diego Padres in exchange for right-handed pitching prospect Justin Lange. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman was first with the news. Photo Credit: AP Voit became expendable after the Yankees re-signed Anthony Rizzo to a two-year, $32 million deal late Tuesday night, so it was only a matter of time before a move came to fruition. This brings an end to Voit’s tenure in the Bronx that few could’ve predicted just a year ago, after he led the league in home runs (22) and finished ninth in AL MVP voting during the shortened 2020 season. 2021, however, was not as kind to the Missouri product, as he battled a multitude of injuries and a loss of playing time down the stretch en route to a .239/.328/.437 slash. With the National League adopting the designated hitter as part of baseball’s new collective bargaining agreement, th...

BREAKING: Yankees re-sign 1B Anthony Rizzo to a 2-year, $32 million contract

Image
After a week or so of speculation who the team would negotiate with for it’s first base opening for the 2022 season, the Yankees finally have their man.   Late Tuesday evening, the Yankees re-signed free agent Anthony Rizzo to a two-year contract.   Rizzo, who was acquired at last year’s trade deadline, was a fine first baseman for the ballclub in 2021, but with higher end options available this offseason – namely Matt Olson from Oakland via a trade, or Freddie Freeman in free agency – this feels like a disappointment.

Yankees agree to terms with all nine arbitration-eligible players

Image
On Friday afternoon, the New York Yankees agreed to terms with all nine of their arbitration eligible players on one-year contracts for the 2020 season.  This marks the third season in a row the Yankees will have avoided going to arbitration hearings with any of their players.  The team was set to go to a hearing with RHP Luis Severino last winter, but instead agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract before the hearing date.   Photo Credit: Abbie Parr/Getty Images

An update on the Yankees WBC participants

Image
The second round of the World Baseball Classic got underway this past weekend with teams from the Netherlands and Japan already securing spots in the championship round. The other two remaining spots will be decided by the end of this week, with teams from the United States, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico vying for those two spots. The Yankees have been well represented in this tournament, with six players and two coaches representing their respective countries. With this edition of the WBC just over half over, I’m here with an update on how the Yankees throughout the tournament are doing. Photo Credit: Koji Sasahara/Associated Press

BBB Update: Top Prospect Countdown Coming Soon

Image
Hey everyone. I just wanted to give everyone a quick update with what is upcoming on the Bronx Bomber Blog. First off, a few members of our team including myself (Chad Raines), Julian Bussells, Sammy Criscitello, Phil Akre and James Grande are working vigorously to come out with the BBB's first edition of the top prospect countdown. We’ve been working and conducting research through the weekend in hopes of getting our collaborative list together today. Therefore, this project will publically begin sometime this week. Our plan is to start with honorable mentions of those who just missed the cut, then write brief summaries on our top 30 prospects. We will start at number 30 and work our way down all the way to the top prospect in the organization daily to stay tuned with that. Now is the time where we shift our focus on speculation about the offseason to previewing the 2016 season. With pitchers and catchers reporting in less than a month, this is an exciting time for baseball...

It feels like such a long time ago when Hiroki Kuroda pitched in pinstripes, but it was only last year.
