Larry Rothschild will not return to Yankees for 2020 Season

The Yankees announced in the morning of October 28th that Larry Rothschild, veteran pitching coach who started in his position in 2011, has been relieved of his duties and will not return for the 2020 season.  Photo Credit: New York Post “I want to personally thank Larry for his near decade of commitment to this organization,” Brian Cashman said in a statement. “Larry cares deeply about his craft, and the pitchers under his tutelage, and he played a significant role in our success over the past nine seasons.” The New York Yankees today announced that Larry Rothschild will not return to the coaching staff for the 2020 season. pic.twitter.com/5rTA6a3noA — New York Yankees (@Yankees) October 28, 2019 Going into the 2020 season, Cashman will have to look for a replacement for Rothschild to work alongside Aaron Boone with the Yankees’ pitching staff. Pinstripe Preview: Coaching Staff

Image
After an ending to the 2018 season that could lightly be described as disappointing, the Yankees have quite the score to settle in 2019.  What with that knowledge, the coaching staff needs to take an already winning formula and transform it into a World Series-winning formula. The entirety of the 2018 coaching staff is coming back for the 2019 season, so the biggest advantage there is the fact that they’ve seen it all and know where improvements must be made.  Their return also indicates that Brian Cashman has faith in the current staff to get the job done. 100 wins is no small statistic; however, it wasn’t enough to win a World Series, and that’s what’s expected when you’re the New York Yankees.  So, what can we expect from the coaching staff in 2019?  How will they help to settle the score and take an already-winning team into a World Series-winning team? Why Nathan Eovaldi should now be at the forefront of the Yankees’ offseason plans

Image
In the wake of sought-after free agent pitcher Patrick Corbin signing with the Washington Nationals today, the Yankees need to pivot quickly, and the best option might just come in the form of an old friend.   Photo Credit: Adam Hunger/USA TODAY Sports Nathan Eovaldi, after being acquired by the Boston Red Sox this past Summer, put the entirety of his skillset on display as he was a key cog in the Red Sox’s rotation as they went on to win the World Series.   After being acquired from Tampa Bay at the non-waiver trade deadline in July, Eovaldi went 3-3 in 12 games (11 starts) with a 3.33 ERA.   Where he shined the most, however, was in the postseason. In his first ever career postseason start, against our New York Yankees no less, Eovaldi dazzled over seven innings of one run ball.   He would make another start in the ALCS against the Astros, again picking up the win over six strong innings, allowing only two runs, before making four rel...

Getting to know the Yankees' coaching staff

Image
We’ve become accustomed to the seeing a familiar coaching staff for quite some time in the Bronx. There were some coaching changes throughout Joe Girardi’s tenure, but for the most part, his staff went unchanged. Now that Aaron Boone is manager, only a couple of coaches from Girardi's staff are returning to assist him. A majority of them are new comers with differing levels of experience. Larry Rothschild must go

Image
For years, I've heard about Larry Rothschild's supposed ability to turn struggling pitchers around. Since he's arrived in New York, however, Rothschild has not been able to live up to such expectations. Whether it be Michael Pineda, Nathan Eovaldi, or any one member of the current circus of relievers, the pitching coach has continuously failed to help his struggling pitchers effectively address the source of their problems. Before I go any further, I must emphasize that I believe Joe Girardi is the root of the problem, and Rothschild is an extension of his manager, but the fruit does not fall far from the tree. Rothschild has been in New York since 2011, and the results have not improved. It is now time for the Yankees to bid farewell to Mr. Rothschild. Photo Credit: John Munson/The Star-Ledger

What to make of Jerry Remy’s controversial comments on translators and mound visits in Major League Baseball

Image
Many Yankee fans that are not avid Twitter users and who did not tune into the Red Sox broadcast over on NESN on Monday night may have missed the controversial comment that Red Sox analyst Jerry Remy made during a mound visit between Masahiro Tanaka and pitching coach, Larry Rothschild. Tanaka continued his recent struggles and after allowing a Red Sox team that isn’t known for their power stroke to take him deep twice in one inning, Rothschild was prompted to talk with his shaky pitcher and tried to calm him down. Homers from Judge and Sanchez not enough as Tanaka gets shelled once again in 9-5 Yankees loss

Image
After dropping the first game of a three game weekend set in Tampa against the Rays, the Yankees looked to get back on track sending their number one starter Masahiro Tanaka to the mound. Tanaka struggled mightily on Derek Jeter night in his last start, failing to get through the second inning and he didn't have good stuff once again digging the Yankees a big hole that they could not recover from. Breaking down Chad Green’s Major League debut

Image
The Yankees acquired 24-year-old Chad Green from the Detroit Tigers this offseason in the Justin Wilson deal. After a dynamite start in triple-A, where he was 2-3 with a 1.22 ERA in seven starts (36 K in 37 innings), Green made his major league debut Monday night for the New York Yankees. Standing at 6’3” and weighing 210 pounds, Green threw 79 pitches across only four plus innings. The University of Louisville product also made his first plate appearances since high school and struck out twice. But although Green was not necessarily effective, he had solid moments to build on.
