In a rather surprising and unexpected move, the Yankees announced following Saturday’s game that they had traded LHP Chasen Shreve and RHP Giovanny Gallegos to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for 27-year-old first baseman Luke Voit and international pool money. The move was done to beef up the Yankees’ position player depth after some injuries and free up more spots on the 40-man roster for the Yankees’ young players   Photo Credit: NJ.com

GAME ONE The Yankees dropped game one of today’s double header against Baltimore by a close score of 5-4. CC Sabathia pitched one of his worst games of the season, allowing five earned runs on two homers. The Yankees had opportunities to make a comeback but couldn’t get the job done against the last-place O’s. The Yankees are just 25-14 against teams under .500, which is 15th in the league. When facing teams above .500, they rank best in MLB at 34-16. 

Last year Cashman acquired Sonny Gray, Jaime Garcia, David Robertson, Tommy Khanle, and Todd Frazier before the July 31st deadline, which helped drive the Bombers to game seven of the ALCS, but they gave up some of their better prospect in the process. The team has its sights set on a championship, so GM Brian Cashman will undoubtedly upgrade the starting pitching at the deadline, but who and for what? LA Times

In game two of this three-game set between the AL's top two teams, the Red Sox got to Sonny Gray early, and coasted to an easy victory behind an utterly dominant Chis Sale. The Boston bats were relentless all night, led by Rafael Devers and J.D. After an exciting 6-0 shutout of the Phillies yesterday, the offense went silent and failed to produce a run in the series finale. Today, the Yankees announced that they have optioned outfielder Clint Frazier back to Triple-A and recalled catcher Kyle Higashioka from Triple-A, as well as reliever Giovanny Gallegos before their series opening game tonight in Philadelphia. With Brett Gardner returning from injury, Clint Frazier is the odd man out in the Yankees outfield and will see more time with Scranton Wilkes-Barre for now. The Yankees are going to need to make some minor moves soon in order to create enough spots on their 40-man roster to protect their plethora of young talent from the Rule 5 draft. The Yankees have one of the most heralded bullpens in the majors, routinely labeled one of the best in the MLB, and usually owning a top five bullpen ERA. However, if you took the blood pressure of Yankee fans when Aroldis Chapman or Dellin Betances stroll out to the mound in a tight game, they would most likely compare to a cardiac arrest patient, why is that? The Yankees entered Sunday night’s contest against the Boston Red looking to take three of four games against the AL East leaders, Boston Red Sox. Fresh off a 5-1 win on Saturday, the Yankees sent Luis Severino to the bump to square off against Cy Young candidate, Chris Sale. The Yankees took an early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Chase Headley hit a line drive home run to left field. The Yankees then increased their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third when Holliday and Frazier went back to back. The injury bug strikes again for the Yanks with Masahiro Tanaka heading to the 10-day DL with shoulder inflammation. This is the second starter in the rotation to go down this week, with CC  Sabathia  going down with right knee soreness and also being placed on the 10-day DL. Now, with Tanaka down, there’s a hole that needs to be filled in the rotation. After starting the season rather poorly, Tanaka has been getting back to his “Ace” type ways.  Over his last four starts he’s given up eight earned over 24 innings pitched, while also striking out 31.    Photo Credit: AP The coinciding move that was made with Tanaka hitting the DL was t he promotion of  Giovanny  Gallegos  from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  Currently at the major league level Gallegos has pitched in nine games, boasting a 7.15 ERA through 11.1 IP, while also striking out 11.  Article by: Vinny Romita Follow @CDRomida Follow @BronxBomberBall

Unless you have been living under a rock or have had no social media access over the past 12 hours, odds are you are well aware of the unexpected blockbuster that seemed to be going Boston’s way took a turn south and found its home in the Bronx. During the few years I've had the pleasure to write for and help grow the BBB, I've been a consistent critic of manager Joe Girardi. I believe that his in-game mismanagement has cost this team numerous games over the past few seasons. Up until last week, the Yankees were on top of the world. Now, the Bombers find themselves in the midst of adversity. Much of the blame for the imploding bullpen and overall decline in production falls on the shoulders of the Yankees' manager. For example, despite clear and quantifiable data that would recommend a move to the contrary, Mr. Girardi refuses to abandon bullpen roles and continues to call on Tyler Clippard in close games. The results have been the same: narrow Yankees defeats. If the Yankees end up missing the playoffs this season, the time will have FINALLY come for Girardi to pack his bags and leave New York. After losing two straight games to the Angels, the Yankees continued their west coast road trip, visiting the owners of the worst record in the American League, the Oakland Athletics. Rookie Jordan Montgomery got the start for the Yanks, attempting to follow up his back to back impressive starts. In what was a wild back and forth game, the Yankees were forced to turn to Giovanny Gallegos in the 10th inning. After dropping the first game of a three game weekend set in Tampa against the Rays, the Yankees looked to get back on track sending their number one starter Masahiro Tanaka to the mound. Tanaka struggled mightily on Derek Jeter night in his last start, failing to get through the second inning and he didn't have good stuff once again digging the Yankees a big hole that they could not recover from. The New York Yankees are guaranteed a series win following an 11-7 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. A strong performance by Michael Pineda, combined with a multi-hit performance by nearly every start, led the Yankees to a dominating performance. Masahiro Tanaka took the mound tonight with a 4.36 ERA on the season to tackle the strong Astros lineup. Charlie Morton had the ball for Houston tonight to face the Yankees and came into the Bronx with a 3.63 ERA. The second round of the World Baseball Classic got underway this past weekend with teams from the Netherlands and Japan already securing spots in the championship round. The other two remaining spots will be decided by the end of this week, with teams from the United States, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico vying for those two spots. The Yankees have been well represented in this tournament, with six players and two coaches representing their respective countries. After a rough start to his professional career from 2012-2014, something clicked for Giovanny Gallegos. He’s posted a sub-2 ERA in both of his last two seasons, which include 27 games at Triple-A. Gallegos, now 25, is in fact on the Yankees 40-man roster and could be someone to keep your eye on during spring training that could potentially win a spot in the Yankees bullpen. Trenton Thunder: 19-16 (3rd in Eastern League Eastern Division Standings, 4.0 games back) Overall : Although the Trenton Thunder lack the Yankees top talent in the farm system, they have a solid team. Still, this Thunder team is comprised of Tyler Austin (#30 in our rankings), Cale Coshow (#27), Dustin Fowler (#7), Jonathan Holder (#22) and Tyler Wade (#14). They’re also getting contributions from others which has propelled them to their solid current standing.
