Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame moment is finally here

Yankees fans knew this day was inevitable, but that fact does not mean that we are not emotional over the fact that it's arrived.

An event delayed by more than 14 months due to the pandemic, Derek Jeter will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame alongside the Rockies' Larry Walker, Ted Simmons of both the Cardinals and the Brewers and Marvin Miller, a labor leader who forged the MLB Players' Association. 

Yankees faithful can watch the induction ceremony today, Wednesday September 8th, at 1:30pm EST on MLB Network, or live stream it on fuboTV. 

Heading into the HOF, Jeter's storied career earned him 99.7 percent of the vote of the BBWAA when selecting the 2020 class.  His lifetime achievements include being named to the All-Star team 14 times, five Silver Sluggers, five Gold Gloves, a World Series MVP designation and an All-Star game MVP designation.  

After recording his historic 3,000th career hit in 2011 (a milestone I will never stop bragging about witnessing in-person) Jeter logged 3,465 all-time career hits, which ranks at sixth all-time.  His lifetime batting average comes in at .310.

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George. Sure little rumors have serviced here or there about them maybe pursuing Zach Greinke who has recently opted out of his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but that move reeks of the move CC Sabathia pulled in opting out of his contract with the Yankees a few years back to simply restructure his contract and make a better payday.   However, instances like CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka are why I believe the Yankees aren’t going to shell out big money and a long term contract for a big name starter this year. No team in baseball history has a story quite like the Yankees. 27 times they’ve found baseball Nirvana which is 16 more than the next closest team (Cardinals). 40 times have the Yankees won the American League, and that is also a major league record. The franchise won four straight championships from 1936-1939 and five straight from 1949-1953, a task no other team has ever accomplished.
