BREAKING: Yankees to acquire Anthony Rizzo from Chicago Cubs

It's been a roller coaster race to the trade deadline (with a miserable loss to the Rays in between) for the Yankees since last night.  After yesterday's acquisition of Joey Gallo, Brian Cashman is trying to outdo himself.  YES' Jack Curry had it first:

Yes, you read that correctly -- Anthony Rizzo is now a New York Yankee -- seemingly right out from under the noses of the Boston Red Sox.  The Yankees are sending two minor leaguers, OF Kevin Alcantara (Yanks' No. 12 prospect) and RHP Alexander Vizcaino (Yanks' No. 9 prospect), to Chicago in exchange for Rizzo.  The Cubs will also pay the Yankees the remaining $5.5 million left of Rizzo's salary for the 2021 season (his full season salary is $16.5 million).

Per ESPN -- "Rizzo wasn't in the lineup in the Cubs' series finale against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday," which was the first clue that something was brewing.

Rizzo, a much-needed left-handed bat for the Yankees, is batting .248 on the 2021 season so far.  He's recorded 14 home runs, 40 RBIs and four stolen bases, with a .792 OPS.  He's struck out 59 times so far this season -- for reference, Giancarlo Stanton has struck out 98 times.  Not to mention, he's a three-time All-Star.  In the field, Rizzo is a four-time Gold Glove.

The questions that remain unanswered as a result of this trade include:

What happens after 2021?  Rizzo is a free agent after the 2021 season.  Is he a "loaner," or is he here to stay and will then sign with the Yankees next year?

What about Luke Voit?  With Rizzo moving into the Yankees' lineup as an obvious everyday player, there's seemingly no place for Voit.  Per NJ.com, Voit was predicted to return as early as today, and at the latest, Saturday or Sunday.  Seeing as he did not return today, he's either still injured, or he's being traded to make room for Rizzo.  Per ESPN's Marly Rivera, the Yankees are "not done" with the trade deadline less than 24 hours away.
